Evertonian in NC

Trying to forget todays game, it's a decent season from us.
There is some deadwood needing to be shipped out of the team and some quality replacements bringing in.

If we wan't to be any better than 7th next season then a pretty big overhaul is required.

Also if we want to survive the freaking July qualifying rounds.  Or we at least need to get our heads screwed on straight.  I wonder if this Barkley thing has been a bigger distraction than we thought.

I still don't get it. We need to get new players in, that and only that improves us. Getting rid of players does not.

It's down to the management to get the right ones in though, it's gonna take a few windows but I feel Koeman will be too impatient with this lot, he strikes me as ruthless, he will have seen enough.

For the body language experts...

At the end Barkley threw his shirt into the crowd.

Then players walking off, Lukaku returns for a second goodbye.

The end for Ross, a second "last year" in the cards for Big Rom.

Get a real #1 CB and at least 2, preferably 3, creative attacking midfielders in stat.

You're supposed to be intelligent. It's probably why we split the Atom and couldn't control the fucking thing. BTW. Whoever tooled me, carry on. You don't know what an Evertonian is. "Personally"! I'm fuming after that.

The real work is to come.

We stabilized and returned Europa League comfort zone, but can we kick on from there? We've not done anything yet.

We are a long, long way from the teams who finished in the top 3 today. You have to expect the likes of Man United will be spending big money again too.

Can we attract and retain (the few we have of that level) players who will allow us to compete for a CL spot?

It's a big ask recruitment wise. Potentially a radically different team awaits us at the start of next season depending on how the Lukaku/Barkley situations resolves themselves.

New Goalkeeper, potentially 2 new CBs, new LB for Coleman's injury, need option for Baines too. That's just the defence.

Schneiderlin, Gueye and Davies in the midfield but beyond that who knows. Bolasie to return at some point. Mirallas has to be replaced, probably our most ineffective area of the pitch attacking wise. We definitely need more goals from midfield, Koeman is not wrong there but we're missing a couple of players if that is what he wants.

Then while I hope Lukaku stays, we either need 1 forward who can contribute meaningfully or two.

I think there is definitely some "chaff" we need to move on from.  For example, the Ashley Williams experiment doesn't really work for me, and I would rather Jags stay on as the #3 CB, and work with Holgate as the pairing for the Cups.

But it would be better if some simply stay on as "squad players" and just play fewer minutes (Mirallas).

Once we got Schneiderlin (and especially before Coleman got hurt), I didn't think anyone was really out of our orbit aside from Chelsea and Spurs.  But like you said, none of our competitors will sit still, either.  And their transfer budgets are larger.

Take nothing whatsoever for granted.  Second season syndrome is a saying for a reason, we have to work hard and work smart to avoid the pitfalls.

That's the problem. Utd Arsenal and Liverpool are all a bit shit but how much are they going to throw at it too. We've got to get lucky in the market. We need a couple of worldclass wide forwards and a world class centre half but we can't sign proven quality

I am really looking forward to seeing a number of players leaving the club, some with a big thank you, others with no regrets. Then a few signings of the type Koeman wants. This will be rebuild part 2 with part 3 at the end of next season.

Everton in the past have always brought in players with certain characteristics and how they fit into the club, well one characteristic they really do need to be addressing is bringing in players who winners, players who play without fear which ever ground they go to. You want to see players who don't accept losing without a fight.

Koeman said he will be speaking to the board tomorrow and will make a statement about the Barkley and Lukaku situations

Good.

Then he should go on a quick holiday and this time come back in time to start planning the next season.
