Late to the party on this one, so I am probably just repeating what others have said, but I am thoroughly pissed off with Rooney here.

Brought in as a 'role model' for our promising youngsters, and charged with drink-driving after less then 3 months at the club? Utterly pathetic. I bet Koeman is absolutely livid with him.

Disgraceful, and in reality he should have his contract terminated, but like Gibson, it will probably be swept under the carpet by the club, especially as we fucked up our search for a striker in the window.
Yes, we're being condescending. Yes, that means we're talking down to you.

Have his contract terminated?

Really?

Just have a think about what you're saying. I take it if people were caught drink driving themselves they'd be perfectly happy to accept getting the sack?

Good to know we have so many morally perfect people on here.

I've just googled it and you have to appear in person on a DD. It's a criminal offence. They could make an example of him if they feel like it. I'm sure he'll be well represented though.

Can't his lawyers get a continuance until, say, the next international break?  Would be the American thing to do.

He should be dealt with by the courts like everyone else. His job doesn't involve driving so he gets a telling off from Everton for being a poor role model and that's it

I have no idea at all on that one mate. Have a trawl through this if you fancy. I can't see anything similar to that.

I'd suggest that if people are looking to footie players as role models, they need to re-calibrate because the problem lies at their own doorstep rather than at the footballer's.

I understand it can be difficult with children but that's the responsibility of parents and teachers. Many footie players have been pissheads, philanderers and in trouble with the law from year dot. The moral outrage is ridiculous.

Rather than that he's lucky he didn't end up spending all weekend in jail and up on court first thing Monday morning.

There's no point dragging it out though, if he's three times over the limit there's nothing to contest. Get to court, take the 18 month ban and £60k fine or what ever it will be, accept he's been a tit and move on.

Fair point.  Hard to argue at this point it was just mouthwash plus one glass of wine with dinner.

Just hate that the Old Trafford match won't have his mind focused 100%, but maybe he's better at compartmentalizing than most of us would be?

I'm fine with discipline for the Spurs match, but NOT the following one.
