Have we played any decent football this season without Rooney/Davies in midfield?

I think Davies' struggles have been down to system more than anything else. He's good when used properly.

It's a tricky situation to manage with the current squad.

Rooney can't play every minute and his fitness needs to be managed but he's the only midfielder we have who's remotely incisive with his passing and we're crap without him on the pitch.

Even taking into account his struggles, is there any reason for Davy Klaassen not to be ahead of McCarthy in this situation?

I don't think Klaassen is the right type of midfielder either. He doesn't look for the ball and he doesn't dribble. From what I've seen, he mostly just moves around in search of space, occasionally contributing a nifty touch to open something up. Like a slow, passive Thomas Muller, or something like that.

That's a hell of a finish, to be fair.
