#whufc bid £20m for Gomes but he wanted to join #efc. No bid from #thfc, who dropped their interest when it became clear he was pushing for a move elsewhere

Imagine getting Ashley Williams' wages off the books and giving them straight to Gomes. How swiftly times have changed at this club.

Been the case since March this.

Everyone flapping because spurs showed interest but it was clear he wanted to stay here.

Hey there mister can you tell me what happened to the seeds I've sown
Can you give me a reason sir as to why they've never grown

I think it's likely that given his negative experience at Barca (pretty much the biggest club you could go to), that he probably values being at home somewhere, being settled, being an important part of a team with potential, more than the usual 'go to a bigger/richer club' thing.

If we get him for anything like those figures it's a really good piece of business. Proof that even in the current climate you don't need to get your pants pulled down all the time and there's still value to be had.

It's great dealing with Barcelona. At times some of their top quality players don't fit in. Lucas Digne was a stonking bargain at 18 mill. Andres Gomes @ the reported 20 mill is on the same level as Digne's signing. Two great acquisitions. If Yerry Mina settles in and  plays anywhere near as good as he does for Columbia, you can add another one to the list. Why he cost more than the previous 2 mentoned, I'm not sure. But it's possible we could have made 3 inspirational signings. As far as I can see, Brands, looks to be the real deal. :)

Nothing new as such, but Echo confirming its all agreed

Everton have agreed a fee with Barcelona of just over £22m for Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes.

Contracts have still to be signed but the Blues hope the paperwork can be completed in the next 24 hours.
The move constitutes a remarkable piece of transfer business by the Blues for a 25-year-old who cost Barca 35m euros from Valencia three years ago, with a potential further 20m euros in add ons.

The Nou Camp switch never worked out for a midfielder who had just guided Portugal to Euro 2016 success - with one of the unfulfilled add-on clauses being if Gomes ranked among the top 10 in the Ballon d'Or shortlist.

Vlasic out Gomes in, minimal spend so far this summer but we’ve got the midfield sorted.

Clearly the rest of our business won’t be as easy to balance with the rubbish we have on the books but we do have some proper quality when you go through the team now, which is being noticed by fans of other clubs too, if Twitter is anything to go by.

For me he was more important than Zouma, hes real quality and we're very lucky to get him on our books. Id still like to get another quality centre midfielder to step in if Gueye/Gomes are injured as they're both significantly better than anything else we have.

Anyone heard anything on Gueye? He was tremendous in our little run in at the end of the season.

Still think Zouma's more important, and I don't think we've got the midfield sorted either, but happy with this for a good value starter for the summer.
