I was just answering the question posed.

Cool, just seen it was reported in The Echo and Telegraph.

Reading a report this morning saying the Gomes deal will cost us in the region of 53 million, something like 22 initial fee, 25 in wages and then extra clauses in the deal with Barca depending on team and player success. Scary amounts of money really

Yes , read that too but wages are normal, other add ons include us winning the league, him getting Ballon díOr and sell on fees, nothing to get scared about there, since when do we add the wage cost over five years to a deal ?

It wasn't for anything other than information, highlighting the true cost of a transfer. But it was definitely click bait though when it said Everton to sign £53 million player, wondered who we were after initially

Thatís only if he stays here for the duration of his contract and leave on a free.

Hopefully we maximise his potential and make a big profit on him in a few years.
Hey there mister can you tell me what happened to the seeds I've sown
Can you give me a reason sir as to why they've never grown

Hopefully he maximises his potential and we improve too, meaning he signs an extention cause we're in the champions league and competing for the title!

25M over 5 years is 100k per week, really about right in the current football climate. Much ado about nothing here. And those extras are not always attainable, but you figure if we owe them 5M more if we win the Champions League (not saying this is one of the clauses, just an example) we'd happily pay it. Same with him winning a Ballon d'Or.

And then put that £53 Million against 5 years of tv money, 5 years gate receipts etc....shows that it may look like a massive number, but it really isnt
You are my Everton, my only Everton, you make me happy when skies are grey

No wonder clubs are terrified of relegation.

Not to get drawn into a finance argument but our finances are a bit of a mess at last accounts.

EBITDA of £7m compared to say Liverpool at 70 odd, West ham at 50 odd, even Southampton on 35m. Only 4 teams lower in the league.

Our wage to turnover ratio is very high at 77%, again only 4 teams worse.

We can swallow a deal like this, but not many of them. Also it would be vital for us to move as many of the wasters as we can as soon as we can.
I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

Schneids £120k
Walcott £110k
Bolasie £80k
Sandro £120k
Jags £50k
Besic £30k
Niasse £55k
Tosun £67k
McCarthy £50k
Martina £35k
Garbutt £28k

So much shit to get rid of, but almost three quarters of a million in wages to free up, don't think we need to worry about £100k a week for a couple of new signings....
