I though first have we were great but second half it looked like Sam was back in the dugout for about twenty minutes, however had a couple of golden chances to put them away which we should have taken

Hughes always looks like he'd wear wellies at a wedding.
I still despise Clive Thomas..

I think he’ll be in for a rough time from the boo-boys soon.

His linkup play and movement is much better than I thought, but the lids think that if a striker didn’t score he’s had a shit game

It's not a case of 'Boo boys'. People actually want him to do well you can tell he really wants it. I just don't think he's right for the league

At least he'll get a run of games to see one way or the other, we got plenty of creativity from others to see us right up front if he dosen't work out, can't wait for a new look defence though, we'd have been in a lot more trouble at times today against much of the prem, plenty to look forward to.

Only two games in, but nice reading.

100% shots to goals.

The 3 goals is the most important I don't mind if he misses ten and scores two.Every game mind.

I think it just goes to show that people were right last year to say we weren't as bad a squad as the football on display and the majority were decent players. A different manager with a fresh approach and playing players to their strengths is a breath of fresh air for everyone, players and fans rather than having the boring, negative 'don't lose' attitude of last year.

You could feel the difference in and around the ground, it was still quiet at times but the moans and groans have been replaced by applause for effort or attempting something even when it doesn't come off.

There was about a 10/20 second round of applause after a slick passing move that continued as we kept possession. Heart warming stuff and shows the distance we have travelled in terms of atmosphere at Goodison and the club.

Good win but we made hard work of it in the end. Look great at times going forward & our front three are going to cause teams problems with the pace of Richarlison and Walcott, thought Tosun was decent, works tirelessly & creates space for the others, he'll score 10-15 this season, don't see people's issue there. Still got a soft centre at the back, hopefully once the new lads have been integrated we'll see an improvement there.

Enjoyed yesterday, there was a great buzz around the ground before the game. Everyone seemed bouncier and happier, looking forward with anticipation rather than dread.

First half was really enjoyable, Richarlison will be worth twice what we paid and more if he stays consistent. Long time since I've seen that kind of natural talent playing for us. Thought we should have been out of sight before they scored. Even after we created the better chances and we played out the last 10 minutes fairly well.

Gueye played well but I though his passing was off in the first half. Sigurdsson had the best game I've seen him play for us. Tosun needs a goal but I think we under-estimate what he brings to the team, he creates space for others to exploit. I think he'll be fine for us.

Overall a good start, adventurous football from players with smiles on their faces, happy days.

Still on holiday in Italy so missed it all again, but it's great having 30 pages to read on here about how we were. It's like watching the game via Teletext!

I still have some questions though:

What is it that Schneiderlin does so well? It's been so long since I've seen it I've forgotten.

How was Holgate? I get that he's had a couple if good games but is he making it hard to drop him, given what we have waiting to come in?

AND lastly, how does anyone expect us to be tighter at the back when you're all banging on about how they've been so well drilled (anally) in training?

I'm only here for the cladding/Bramley Moore Dock updates

how good were siggy's set pieces? Keane got on the end of a few. Can definitely see Mina bagging 5+ goals from corners and free kicks

Mayor Farnum

Word of praise fro Keane today. He is improving on his form from last season which is encouraging. He's not going to go from the depths of last season back to the top of his game in a couple of appearances but he looked a lot more assured yesterday. Not perfect but getting better.

It's nice and handy watching the OS highlights, as you don't see too much of what Southampton managed to trouble us with. The highlights are, "a little bit kind" shall we say. Southampton were better than I was expecting, so a decent result considering it's not far off our 2017-2018 team. We will start to see the introduction of the new players waiting in the wings soon. Surely that can only bring an improvement on what we have seen today. With the exception of Richarlison, that was what Silva described as a good nucleus. Well played Gylfi Siggurdsson. Besides Richarlison, he's the best we have atm on the pitch. He showed his considerable abilities on Saturday and I'm sure, there is lots more to come from him. Good start to the season. I'm pretty happy with it up to now. :)

It’s interesting re Sigurdsson.

A) the use more as a forward so we’re more 4-2-4 than 4-2-3-1

And b) that people do get blinded by his fee.

He doesn’t have to be a top 4 player for where we are right now - the fee is irrelevant bar expectations. He has been a very good PL player for almost all of his time in England, that’s what we need to get out of him (and signs yesterday we’re very promising).
