Here's some detail in the Echo

I love him calling out the media there.

But when he does it I bet it’s with menace (think Alastair Campbell and not Jeremy Corbyn)

"The director of football says he was also interested in signing Sevilla's Clement Lenglet earlier in the summer but Mina would become the club's No1 target after Barcelona signed the France international in late July."

The difference in having a competent, professional Director of Football is immense really.

All the stuff people were worrying about (have we got backups lined up? is he going to buy defenders? are we going on wild goose chases? etc) he had boxed and dealt with pretty early on.

Also he's just an infinitely more impressive presence than Steve Walsh. That matters when you're dealing with clubs like Barcelona or with Bernard's and his representatives, for example. I really like the way he says 'target'. It makes him sound like an Eastern European android from an 80s cold war thriller.
This guy is the real deal.

Wage and squad size down, quality up.

Interesting that Barca wanted to sell Gomez originally- if he does well maybe we can get him permanently

Would’ve done anything to be sitting in Big Farhads gaff with the lads having few tinnies and smokes watching the England game.

Lots of Barca fans would be made up about that. I’m hoping we see some good from him. Looking forward to seeing him play.

Its interesting that he’s fairly candid about everything. It’s often seemed that there’s still a lot of secrecy about transfers/ transfer plans here for both the clubs and players, and as such whenever anyone discusses anything (Lukaku, Leipzig re Lookman etc. there’s a general fume).

There seems to be a lot less emotion in transfers (generally, there’ll always be some exceptions for rivalries) away from here.

There was talk of them putting up some kind of Everton related statue outside of their ground as a thank you for us taking their cast offs. Personally, im really happy with the players we've got and just cause they dont make it at Barca isnt a negative, we're not in a place where we can attract superstars, but I think in signing the likes of Digne, Mina, Gomez, Richarlison and Bernard we've vastly improved our squad

Totally agree.

Love this about Brands landing Mina as well:

Brands on Mina Capture
Marcel Brands has rejected the claim that Everton paid a premium on agent fees to land Yerry Mina.
Reports suggested Manchester United removed themselves from the race to sign Mina due to frivolous demands from his representatives, but the director of football confirmed that the Blues weren’t held to ransom.

“It was really simple behind the scenes,” Brands told the Daily Star. “I put the offer in and Barcelona asked for a totally different amount that we would never have paid.

“Then they said: ‘Okay, we will wait until the end of the market’. We never changed our offer.

“That was a bit of gamble because everyone was writing about Man United and Barcelona used that, agents used that, everyone used it.

“I don’t know exactly if Man United were in. The player said constantly to me: ‘I want to go to Everton’.

“I don’t know exactly the situation with Man United but of course Barcelona used it.

“They said to me: ‘Man United are coming in’. I don’t know if they did but I took a bit of a risk with that.”
