Alex Young and the Holy Trinity of Kendall, Harvey and Ball, just so I could see them play live and not on old footage.

We did have big Nev at his peak though, so you can't count him or Alan Ball (sigh ) for the same reason. Has to be Gascoigne, even better than Rooney at his peak.

This is Everton we could field a whole team of players we got too late. Richard Gough, Colin Todd, Nigel Martyn spring to mind as best in their position in their heyday yet still not our best option for this thread.

Gazza ,Andrei ,Rooney, Ginola would all walk into this or most prem teams in their pomp .

A Lineker would be ok right now...Me old fellas 81 and he still rambles about Alex Young, usually after whisky.
I still despise Clive Thomas..

Out of those listed in the OP it has to be Gazza or Eto’o because they were truly world class.

Anyway, we had Rooney at his best; he was still an Everton player when he looked head and shoulders the best player in Europe at Euro 2004 ;)
Dignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them

Just thinking of an Everton team with Gazza, Ginola, Kanchelskis, Eto'o, Hughes and Beardsley in their prime together........sigh
They'd be shit without carsley protecting them

1)Pat Jennings - should have signed him to replace Gordon West

2)Colin Todd - should have signed him when Tommy Wright retired

3)Keith Newton - brilliant for Blackburn before he signed for us; brilliant for England in the 1970 World Cup; brilliant for Burnley after they signed him from us; not so brilliant for us

4)Eric Dier - ideal alongside John Stones

5)John Stones - ideal alongside Eric Dier

6)Tony Kay - would have made the 1966 World Cup squad, if not the team

7)Steve McMahon - our youngest ever captain until a few weeks ago; I wonder if Tom Davies will win as many England caps?

8)Gareth Barry - signed ten years too late

9)Peter Beardsley - should have signed him in '85 instead of Lineker. No, as well as Lineker!

10)Wayne Rooney - by a street, by a mile, by about 400 games and by about 200 goals

11)Landon Donovan - should have been permanent

Subs:

12)Nigel Martyn - should have signed him to replace Big Nev

13)Archie Gemmill - the one that got away!

14)Ross Barkley - the one that didn't!!

15)Billy Kenny Jr - if only...............

For what we need today, Gazza without a doubt.

Can't believe I've just read Eric Dier.
