I remember being at the opener against Villa that season and thinking we were going to be amazing.  Then sat through an horrendously dull 0-0 and things only got worse from there.  I think that was possibly the most toothless and boring Everton team ever that season, really hard to watch.

John Collins missed a pen.

I think Utd has scored as many goals at GP (They beat us 1-4 in October) as we had by Christmas or something.

Sorry, I was wrong.

They’d scored more than us until we beat Boro 5-0 in Feb...

Didn’t score in 7 of our first 11 home games :eh:

Actually ridiculously bad.

Yeah it was awful.  I was at uni and was going out with a girl from the USA and bringing her to games.  She was bored senseless and I put it down to her being used to US sports, but no she was absolutely right to be bored!

We had a decent team back then though didn’t we?

Dacourt, barmby, ball, Campbell, Ferguson

On paper it looked good but the football was atrocious.

Campbell joined on loan late that season and pretty much kept us up, he wasn't there before that.

My favourite player by a long way. One of those players you wished would played for us in another era. For instance, just what we need right now.

Dacourt
Gravesen
Materazzi

Matteo Ferrari was another who looked like he could be outstanding but never really worked out.

Games like this, albeit against a very good side, where we played with 4 CBs and 2 full backs as the wide midfielders :)

still remember Materazzi crying when he was judged to have made a soft pen.  Who would have guessed he would be able to get Zidane sent off in a word cup final.  3 great players as you said

I was made up when we signed Collins.
When he moved on after just one season to go to Fulham I knew then that things were not right at Everton.
Something clever written by someone else.

He was here more than one season wasn’t he? Two at least

Yeah had a lot of toe injuries I think.

Had some decent games at RB towards the end of his time here.

But think we were paying him £25k per week which was big money then.

To borrow a phrase often used after another dull game at the time, disappointing.
