Has been fired by AZ.
They lost at home to Vitesse Arnhem last night, and that appears to be the final straw.
Of course he was shocked and didn't understand it.

AZ have appointed Dick Advocaat  as their new coach.
He'll take over till the end od the season, and will still remain the national coach of Belgium.
He still hasn't said yes, I've just heard.
He'll make his decision tomorrow.

So they had Van Gaal and now Advocaat - I get confused enough between Van Gaal, Advocaat and Hiddink and this surely won't help!

Just switched on FC Utrecht v Ajax in time to see Utrecht go 2-0 up.  Ajax now down to 10 men and Utrecht have been impressive from the little I've seen.

Those three are really different, I can distinguish them very well (well being Dutch does help)
Guus Hiddink is a good away above the others. Not only as a coach, but as a person too.

Good news on Ajax losing, didn't know that.

Major Clanger

I've always regarded Ronald Koeman as a bit of a dickhead, and I know I'm not alone. But I thought he was sacked for financial reasons, but based on what you wrote this isn't true.

(Mind you, Erwin has started being arrogant with journos too, but they bloody deserve it.)

fast lane

Erwin is definately the more level headed and down to earth one of the two.
It is even known that Ronald has cheated on his wife, for example,

The expectations are that Dick Advocaat will be appointed on Thursday.
Wednesday is AZ's last Champions League match against Standard Liege.
The Belgians aren't happy with it at all.
AZ have four Belgian internationals in their team, to add to the complications.
But as it has been arranged that it's only temporary (till the end of the season), the Belgians have reluctantly accepted.

Will Advocaat release his players for international duty and if not, will he slag himself off for it? :)

On a sidenote, what a cracking season is Dzsudzsak having. He's really found his feet at PSV and as it is usual, paper talk has already begun about Arsenal and Real Madrid. Some people are really crazy.

Loved Koeman as a player. One of my favourites of all time. Pity he seems such an idiot otherwise. HAte that as you grow up, the people you admire just keep dissapointing you.

I think Belgium have only one friendly in that time, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Dzsudzak is having a cracking season.
He has improved himself again.
Didn't know about Arsenal, but it seems a premature.
Real Madrid have established themselves as having more money than sense.
But I can't see him staying a couple of years at PSV if he keeps on developing.

Ronald Koeman is another example of a very good player not making a very good coach.
Like Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten before him.

Cue Diego Maradona.
I wonder what will happen at the World Cup with him at the helm.
An accident waiting to happen?

I actually think that Argentina will do better than a lot of people expect.  They weren't as bad as people think in the qualifiers, in fact they improved in terms of results once Maradona took over.  They were unlucky on occassion (they should never have lost at home to Brazil),  although they did have a big stroke of luck against Peru in the 2nd to last game.  They also went to Uruguay and got a result when it mattered too, which suggest that their mentality can't be suffering too badly either.

I agree that Maradona was a bad choice of coach, but if he lets his assistant (Bilardo, I think) get more involved then they should be alright - despite a poor defence at the moment.

Confucius

Argentina is like Germany. ALways good in a major competition. He is not a good coach but he might distract the media away from the team and allow them to get on with it. Which is the same reason I would take Beckham in the England suad. Can train occasionally but let him tackle te media. never has to play or be involved in anything, just there to handle the media attention sure to envelope the England squad.

So it is Dick Advocaat then indeed.

Yep, there's a bit of conspiracy theory added to make it more interesting.
Advocaat was contacted a couple of weeks ago.
The chaiman of the Belgian federation let it slip out.

But not all the blame can be given to Koeman.
It appears the AZ squad needs a firm hand.
They are used to Co Adriaanse and Louis van Gaal.
Ronald Koeman has a relaxed approach, the players couldn't handle the freedom.
That's why Dick Advocaat has been contracted.
The firmer hand is required again.
