Title: Everton V Wigan
Post by: andybaker on August 28, 2009, 04:41:55 am
Feeling a bit cheerier about everton after a couple of signings.

Hopefully Distin is offical before todays 12:00 deadline and can play.

Dont want to guess the team and im going for 1-0 Everton.

i still dont think we are flowing and dont seem to be creating many chances. It vital we get off the mark and a goal of Brambles arse will do for me at the moment.

COYB!

We're not doing well in the league, but in recent games Wigan have looked woeful. I think our season is going to kick on now, 2-0 (Cahill and Saha)

Don't think we'll see Distin go straight in without even training with squad tbh, hopefully will be Neville's last ever game at CB...

2-0 to us. Osman and Jo getting off the mark for the season.

Distin and Cahill in with Hibbert and Gosling dropped. Neville to right back also. Everyone else to keep their place.

Think this will be a bit more challenging than this fixture last season, their new sigining Rodallega was immense against Villa. They maintained posession well and played the Arse a lot tighter than we did. Fingers crossed for a 1-0 victory. Think we'll need Distin to have a massive start for us.

Everton 2-1 Wigan

Osman, Saha.

I don't think this will be an easy game. I can see it being close with us nicking it late on. I definatly think Wigan will score as we will have either a new defensive pairing or a weak one (Neville), we also have Tony Hibbert.

I'll go for 1-0 and I'd take the crazy bet of Bilyaletdinov to score on his debut!! Nuts I know....but I'm going to will for it to happen.

Also, trying to figure out what our best XI is....(current fitness and if they've been at the club long enough to play)

GK: Howard
RB: Neville CB: Yobo CB: Distin LB: Baines
DM: Rodwell
RM: Osman CM: Fellaini LM: Pienaar
AM: Cahill (to me - needs to play in this position, otherwise wasted in the team)
ST: Saha

Really looking forward to Bilyaletdinov taking to the field....just have a feeling about this fella...And if he plays, switch Pienaar to the right taking Osman off.

I think it's more to do with having Neville back in the centre mid. He's a stable player for the likes of Rodwell to play alongside rather than Cahill there. And we have played superbly ith Fell in the team before, so singling him out again like that is poor.

I like Fellaini and he has an important part in our team, but in our strongest line up he would be on the bench.

jesus christ, im stating a fact. This game, and Chelski away last season. Both times he didnt play, and our level of football was light years better than when Fellaini has played.

Im not saying its his fault, but we do play better football without him

Our defense looks much better with Distin at the back and Neville in midfield.  Granted, it isn't Barca we are playing.  But it is an improvement.

osman might as well not be there.......theres no threat from him at all.
im not a fan of hibberts, but even he seems to try get forward and do something more than  osman has. in fact there may be something in the theory that if hibbo had someone better in front of him he might also look a better player. even if it was just a case of him being able to concentrate on defending more so than backing osman the invisible up.
billy on for osman and pienarr down the right for me.

Agree about the defence looking more solid - not been tested massively but the players seem so much more comfortable than in the other games we've played so far this season.

We're playing alright but we've not really created enough chances given our dominance of the ball.  We've got to get better quality balls in to the box because I think the standard of crossing so far has been pretty poor.

Right on....

The defence has not been jittery and looking like they are GOING to make a mistake . If wigan continue to play this way it will be VEry hard for them to knick a goal.

On the other hand our midfeild passing has been nothing short of superb. We are only lacking options in the box when we penetrate down the wings...

MoM so far has to be Rodwell for me.  Looked confident  on and off the ball.  Also hasent made a mistake or anything.

We're moving the ball well in defence and midfield, but our final ball has been horrendous, hopefully cahill can get on the end of one of the crosses, I feel like he hasn't scored in forever.

That right there at the end is why fellaini is going to be huge, wonderful skill, little change of speed and a perfect ball.

Quote from: bryanThose were two IMPACT substitutions.  Fellaini bossed the field and Jo won the pen with his scorer's nous in the box.

memo to Everton training staff " Please teach Mr. Jo the off side rule" + sell Osman tomorrow, actually just give him away!

Well done lads, stuck to it, Wigan came to kick us, 30 odd fouls, 6 yellows, they didnt desrve anything.....mind you that 6 on 2 had me in a state, well played Pip for forcing the lad wide.

Did Biily get a kick?

Sorry lads have to post dribble as lost all me gold (again) in the betting shop........

Thank goodness we are up and running.

I was surprised by the Fellaini substitution but he was very composed and made a really big impact.

Hats off to Rodwell - best complete game I've ever seen him play. He has staked his place in the starting line up.

Distin, impressive debut. Especially liked how he was often looking to play it along the floor out of the back rather than hoofing.

fellaini played a great game, as did rodwell. i thought cahill looked much better today, 2-3 chances stopped by good defending. distin looked pretty solid too.

Cahill was invisible in my opinion.  Very much out of the action - often far from the ball in midfield.  This match screamed for a creative CM to play along Rodwell, who took the more defensive posture.  Having Rodwell and Neville in midfield won't work without a much more forward thinking creative player there as well.  Arteta would have bossed this game from the opening kick.

I give high marks to Hibbert for his crosses, but he and Osman cost us their goal with a complete lack of defensive positioning on the corner.

in fairness it was a good performance, but it was one of those days where nothing seems to go well. thankfully the substitutions changed that and the game was won.

good performances by fellaini (kick up the arse he needed) and jo (shame about the missed chance), but osman was awful.

To be fair, Hibbo was marking his man making a run in the box. Osman was just watching Scharner.

I thought we played poorly on the whole despite dominating possession.  However, as I said earlier in the thread, don't care how we get the 3 points we just needed them and it might give us the boost we need.  Impressed with Rodwell and Fellaini today and thought Cahill tried hard but nothing came off for him.

We still aren't very decisive in the final third, no-one seems to want to shoot.

Moyes seriously needs to stop with his obsession with Osman, he's not good enough.

Rodwell had most of our shots I think Sandman. Seemed to shoot whenever he could from range.

I actually enjoyed that .. obviously we are no where near to firing on all cylinders yet but we should have had that game sewn up long before we did , Some good performances , Jack , Hibbo , Distin , Pienaar (again) , Tim Howard , Louis , and Fellaini all did their bit , It will give us a lot of confidence battling to the end to get the 3 points , .. MOM ?Jack Rodwell for me , Absolute class

Both points I agree with. I still need to be impressed with Jo somehow.

Osman is fucking unbelievable. Honest to god, since the cup final i don't recall a good thing other than his cross to pienaar against Sigma. Otherwise he's been fucking gash.
