Went to Carlisle and watched the CC game. Here's what I said on Other Football Chat.

Went to the game, but you can't really read to much into it with regards to Saturday.

They certainly wern't that impressive, and if Carlisle had taken there chances it could have been a different result. Pompey were good on the break, but Pienaar and Heitinga can have a field day against Belhadj if he plays, he's quick down the left, and good at going forward but pretty poor as a defender.

Hopefully we won't play hoofball, Kaboul and Mokoena mopped up everything Carlisle hoofed at them.

All in all, quite an enjoyable cup game, fair play to the Pompey fans, must have been about 200 of them travelled, and they sang for the 90 minutes, although I could have shoved the various drums and trumpets right up their arses after about 10 minutes.

3-0 to us. Hart sacked on Monday.

I think we will win, but how much are Pompey going to want those points (even if it's a point!!). Sitting at the bottom with no points should give them a kick up the arse to start their season! However, they lack the class players they had last season and we are definitely looking more and more dangerous. Saha to score a brace 2-0.

Howard, Heitinga, Yobo, Distin, Baines, Pienaar, Rodwell, Bily, Cahill, Saha, Yak

Bit bold and it's a potential disaster fixture given the current situation with both clubs... but I think after an early round of slugging we'll break them and their resistance will collapse.

3-0 to us.

Cahill to score first.

3-1 to us, Saha will get one and  Yakubu will come off the bench and score a brace.

I had a dream last night, so I must change my prediction.   Yobo will score  a volley form about 8 yards out and Baines will haver a headed goal disallowed.  It seems we will also move the game to Goodison and I will be moved from my Paddock season ticketed seat to the Main Stand.................

Good first half for Fellaini, Pienaar, Baines, Howard and Saha.  Osman doesn't deserve to play the next 45.  Heitinga isn't far behind Osman, either.  I have been very unimpressed by how easily he has been beaten.  Slow, too.

Neither team have been great. Been quite a boring game so far. But I'll take the win anyhow!
Title: Portsmouth v Everton
Post by: Confucius on September 26, 2009, 07:35:58 am
Osman and Heitinga has been so poor. Perhaps Hibbo was never the problem, Osman is the only problem. Never tracks back and never goes forward. Just taking up space.
Title: Portsmouth v Everton
Post by: Silas on September 26, 2009, 07:38:18 am
I think we have been very poor on the right.  Heitinga seems good going forward but defensively very poor.  Osman apart from one great cross has been totally anonymous.  I think we are making Portsmouth look better than they are.

Hoofball might have got the goal but would love for us to get the ball down second half.  Baines and Pienaar are trying to.

heitinga is still adapting saying hibbo is better is just daft

Decent so far. Great save by Howard to deny Dindane and Fellaini was a tad unlucky with that header. Saha took his goal brilliantly too.

Hopefully Pompey will start to tire around 65 minutes, thereby allowing us to get another one or two to finish them off.

Post by: bryan on September 26, 2009, 07:45:19 am
Heitinga may be adapting, but he is being passed by players from the other team and cannot catch up.  He needs to make up for his lack of speed with better situational positioning.  This is in direct opposition to his desire to get forward, unfortunately.  I hope that Bilya comes on, Pienaar goes to the right and Heitinga doesn't have to move as far upfield.

60 mins get Billy on. Game over.

Rodwell didnt have the best first 20 minutes, looked really poor, gave the ball away too much, didnt command the midfield as he did vs Hull. Got more into the game last 25 mins.
Title: Portsmouth v Everton
Post by: blargins on September 26, 2009, 07:49:41 am
Early days for Heitinga, we (most) gave Fellaini plenty of time to settle, no different for this lad. Although I expect him to show better form sooner because he can speak English after all ;)

I still like him, I just want him to stay home a little more.  You don't need a season to realize that he is average speed, at best.  One thing he definitely has over Hibbo:  Tony would be giving away free kicks after being beaten, where Heitinga lets his teammates help him out.

I think it's the fact these are desperate that we are well under the cosh.

I'm not expecting 3 points now though.

I think it needs to be Jo.  I don't want these batards to hurt Saha or the Yak.  (Jo either)

3 points is 3 points though, and moves us up the table.

Blimey that was a poor second half, Pompy gave it a right good go, we were lucky there. Why the hell does Felaini think he can just jog round in the last 15 minutes?

I reckon Pienaar will be out a while too. Looks like his knee. What's going on with that? 4 players with major knee injuries.

Pompey were very unlucky today.
Fellaini was one of our better players for most of the game.

Agreed, we let them command the match for the last 15-20 minutes.  We should have been scoring our second to put the 3 points away.

They were very unlucky today but they are the type of games that you have to win , if the RS had battled in a few games like that last season they'd have won the league ...  and if portsmouth play like that from now on they may well get out of trouble , they're better than Wigan hull and Blackburn

Very lucky today. We could have easily have lost that in the last 20 minutes alone.

Howard has earned his corn for this week. Apart from that cross that he didn't collect properly he was great, as were Saha and Baines. Pienaar and Fellaini had good games too. Rodwell went missing a lot in the second half, but he's only young and he'll have games like that.

Couldn't understand the Hibbert substitution though. We lacked shape on the right following that sub. Why didn't we just bring on Gosling to keep the shape? He isn't brilliantly defensively, but the team would have looked more balanced rather than sticking Cahill on the right.

Still, 3 points and that's all matters.

Yeah I thought he had a tidy game today until the last 10....but besides, howard and baines who did stick to the task in the final quarter of the match? We won though....let's forget it and move on to next week.
