My fave player at us ATM I'd say, maybe JB
Thelwell talking strategy
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Just mad isn't it, our best player, on pens, can't out score or out assist Neal the maups Maupay.
Need some standards around this place imo.

You’re the one running his twitter account aren’t you?
It all adds up.
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
I just need to check.
You do know that strikers are expected to score more than midfielders don't you?
You say you like JB, but I reckon Maupay has outscored him too
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Dya reckon, in the modern game?
Top 15 scorers in the prem i reckon you'd see more wide forwards than cfs.
Is the worst ever player we've ever had etc etc supposed to outscore our best player? Wild to me but here we are! How about assists? Are we meant to get zero assists from our wide men because so far we are.
Love Ndiaye but those are rookie numbers.
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Are we really having and argument that Maupay is better than Ndaiye but for the season he played for us, which is really all that should matter?
And then also discounting his poor return in France this year?
Not sure the point of this one tbh.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Seven goals in 29 games which I imagine translates to a one in three record.
Happy with that myself considering the team he’s had to play in for most of the season.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
For a £15m guy stepping into the prem im happy for sure.
I am just drawing an interesting parallel between the guy who is our current bright spark, and the player who is like absolutely VILIFIED, and who was frankly shite for us tbqh.
But I understand why he was bought. He was putting up quality numbers for years. Even his year at Brentford.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
It wasn't a black mark though, at the time the decision was either a 1 in 3 Serie A striker, free in his first season, or literally not signing a striker.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:43 pm Spent about 25% of his overall outlay on Beto.
I thought it weren't for that I'd be more inclined to say he'd done a good job in difficult circumstances.
As it stands I'd say he did an ok job because the one black mark against his name is a pretty massive one. He also thought signing Maupay was a good idea.
Most of the outs have been end of contracts so nothing major done there, did flip Onana for profit but it was one of those where the initial outlay was too high to make significant money on the deal.
Difficult circumstances for sure though, I'm happy we haven't decided to keep him though, was probably a good fit for where we were but not where we want to be
It was that desperate. Remember what it was like at the time, with DCL injured. Imagine had we signed no one, there would have been a revolt.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Do you think maybe, that he is vilified because he is shite yes, but the way he conducts himself as a wind up, classless prick ....maybe has had an effect on how we view him?brap2 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:48 pm For a £15m guy stepping into the prem im happy for sure.

Baiting everton fans and being happy when we lose etc, all whilst being under contract here.
Im unsure why you are making this a discussion?
Surely surely you see that NDiaye is viewed much more positively due to edge of the seat play, regardless of actual goals/assists. Plus he genuinely loves being here and is a happy friendly guy around the club. Pair that with the absolute shitshow from the last few years, which maupay would revel in.....
It's obvious but maybe you already know that.
No one is saying NDiaye stats are out of this world but he is an exciting player. I hope next year we have better players around him and he continues bringing a bit of joy and excitement to the club.

I’m with Brap2 too (echo… echo)
And with everyone else. Yes we love the Il-Man and he is exciting etc etc, but if we are discussing bad signings and Maupay it is worth looking at why he was signed in the first place. Also if we love Ndiaye and hate Maupay it is interesting to question the metrics we measure them both by.

Re: Thelwell talking strategy
We could have just loaned someone, if your options are loan someone for a year or buy someone not even remotely suited to the league for £25m there's a very obvious choice.Cods wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 10:11 pm It wasn't a black mark though, at the time the decision was either a 1 in 3 Serie A striker, free in his first season, or literally not signing a striker.

Any form of scouting should have shown that 1 in 3 form wasn't transferable to the premier league, not was the player suited to the way we played.
It's an abhorrent waste of money for a club without any.
I don't buy it was Beto or nobody, that's not how football works.
Re: Thelwell talking strategy
Surely the metric we measure them buy is how they perform for our club?Toddacelli wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 4:57 am I’m with Brap2 too (echo… echo)
