We’re talking at cross purposes here I think. Some are saying he would do ok here, maybe even be an upgrade on Doucoure. Those saying they don’t want Soucek are not saying he wouldn’t be - they’re saying there is an opportunity here to do a rebuild and that we should be looking at younger and cheaper (because we need a lot of bodies) and if at all possible - better would be nice too.


The debate isn’t is Soucek good enough, the debate is whether this is how we should approach the rebuild or not.

Obviously we need younger players but it can't just be that. We need players for now too who can produce a guaranteed level now.

Think if we spend 100m this summer and 20 goes on a 30 year old with a good consistent record that's not too bad.

Obviously it depends how much we have to spend and who else we sign but it's more than a bit dramatic suggesting you'd (not actually you) lose faith with moyes if 1 signing was of this type.

He's miles better than doucoure. Might go to 25 if we didn't have to re sign doucoure

He's not great on the ball but he doesn't butcher almost every attack he touches and he's score way more goals this season.

I'm not desperate to sign him or anything but nor would he be an awful signing. He'd just be a little short term.

I'd presume Doucoure will want the absence of a fee reflected in his new deal.

Would just be the same mistake that put us in the hole and nearly collapsed the club.

He isn’t even that good a footballer to justify a decent fee. We have Alcaraz right there who is younger, cheaper and already proved himself in the premier league.

It’s like the last eight years haven’t happened on here at times.

We need every signing to be the right type of signing this summer. We can’t afford to throw £20m down the drain with little return in the era of PSR.

And before you or anyone else say it, no I don’t expect us to fill the team with young wonder kids or anything like that.

I just want to see us operate like a proper football club in the market for once.

We need to be careful who we are signing it’s grand bringing in loads of young talent but we need some proven prem players as well soucek is a good signing for a year or 2 linked with richy again today I wouldn’t bring him back based on his injury record this season

Why go straight in for Souceck though?

Moyes obviously loves a Soucek/Fellaini style player in the middle.

No one had really heard of Fellaini until he signed and neither Souceck, think he came direct from the Czech leagues.

Surely this is the whole point of scouting?

We must be able to find someone with similar qualities out there who profiles the same as Souceck but a lot younger.

And that was still the right decision. It doesn't matter how well he's done at Napoli. They paid £30m+ that we didn't have for a 27 year old who would be the wrong side of 30 halfway through his contract. Its exactly the type of deal we need to stay away from.

There is absolutely zero doubt on my mind we get Soucek this summer, it is definitely happening as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah there are red flags but I think we can expect some safe signings can't we?

It's a big if. He's only ever scored 10 once in a PL season and that was 20/21. Five and half seasons, 190 appearances, 35 goals and 9 assists for a 30 year old at £20m is the kind of deal we all moaned about for years, it's a terrible idea.

On a more serious note, he's pretty much a better than average journeyman PL footballer. Let's face it, if he was more than that he'd be somewhere else at 30. There is of course an argument for saying we need a few players like that given our squad depth. I'd just rather we showed a little more ambition and bought into the BMD re-set dream. I don't want Soucek type buys, I want us to be looking at players under 25. I'm hoping (dreaming) we show some creativity in the market. After all, we are pretty much all agreed our short to medium future has to be based on a buy low sell high strategy. Soucek, good or bad, doesn't fit that a all.

You sort some big gaps and can then start adding seasoning and spicy buys around them.

If they go - noone over 25, nobody over £10m, data driven, loan partner, will have an unbelievable squad in 3 years time - I'd be on board of course it's been my dream since I first heard the words "xg" but I'd be pretty surprised if they, and especially DM, had any interest in that.

Issue is, if West Ham want to keep him, which i think they do, the fee wont be reasonable.

There's just so many holes to fill what I think of as the priority one day changes by the next. From that point of view I think we need to do what we can with those out of contract with us and elsewhere first. Fill in whatever gaps we can leaving us to know what we've got to actually spend on whatever is still needed.
