So do we close the thread now?
Best not do just in case we get that £80m offer for Branthwaite.

True, but I'm not sure we're selling now even for that, (provided we're not in really severe financial trouble). It'd derail our bid for survival and would cost us more than what we'd get for him.

The positive thing with Thelwell at the reigns is that he gives the impression that he's already scouting lots of replacement players for Branthwaite and Onana so that we're able to jump when the time comes.

Thing is we haven’t a clue what 777 partners strategy would be if they succeed in buying the club, Dyche and Thelwell can say what they want but if 777 need to sell for whatever reason they will do so.

Yes, but I think it's still messages delivered, at certain times, for maximum impact and PR reasons rather than driven by an honest desire to be open and transparent.

But it's something. And better than it used to be.

I think that's a tad harsh. I think we've asked for better communication from the club so many times, and then they've done it (as in this example from Thelwell, just before the window opens) and it feels a bit cynical to criticise that.

I think management of expectations is a huge part of comms and he's done a great job there. He's basically said ''we're not looking to buy anyone in Jan, we're still having to be very careful with the finances, we might get a loan, ignore all the tabloid nonsense''. Great. Exactly the way to diffuse the issue to avoid endless speculation and agonising.

And then he's added ''don't worry, we're planning for future transfer windows, so it's not like I'm sat around on my arse''. Again, sound. Exactly what I would want to hear and I fully believe that to be true.

    Of course.

But they'd also have to consider how relegation of their flagship purchase might impact their investment.

He'll be gone in the summer, but I think we'll convince him even if a bid comes in now to wait until then to move on.

At the end of the day he's worth far more to us with FFP if we sell than Onana, it's almost all profit (minus any sell on % to Carlisle), whereas as Onana cost a fair bit (£35m) meaning selling him would give us a lot less wiggle room to spend.

Going to enjoy him this season, but the way he's playing there'll be some big teams circling come the summer, and we will sell imo.

True maybe a bit cynical, but as you say it's still controlled and massaged messaging given at select times.

It would be unlikely that he'd run that line if we'd just come off 6 straight defeats (rather than 4 wins from 6) and DCL was still injured. There'd be outcry like the last few windows where we didn't have options. And I guess both him and Sean have fewer constraints around them in some respects given Bill's passing and Farhad not being around.

I'd just prefer they come out and say it more directly and openly, rather than the whole PR game that has the sentient points in the third to last paragraph. But everybody does it so I guess it's difficult not to expect the same.

I thought at the time (the BBC Guiliana stuff and other interviews Kev did) were partly done to change the narrative at a time that was easier (not when we were in dire chance of relegation, but once we were safe, and also about the time we were to have the FFP verdict delivered, in order to garner support to our plight if it wasn't a nice outcome (as it turned out to be).

There's probably some honesty there though, but I think it's prudent to be somewhat sceptical.

We were linked with Phillips in the Independent yesterday I think, along with Newcastle and Juve. Lad needs to get himself out of there whatever does.
