The Rebuild
Re: The Rebuild
Does all his best work when he's drifted into the middle. Maybe that's fine, but personally I think get your best players as close to where they can score as possible.
At the moment we're using him like adama traore. Get the ball in our half and run us up the pitch. Let him take 2-3 people on in the danger zone instead and he'll be through on goal, where his finish is super reliable.
Got 11 assists for Sheffield, and popped up for 14 goals, largely centrally.
He's not de Bruyne no, but he might be something special in the middle.
Then buy a LW/RW, or RW/direct LB with a slow but tidy LW ahead of them and lettem cook.
There's no *obviously logical answer* here, the squads a state and part of this is going to be what can Moyes make with what he ends up with, so try and keep the condescending tone under control a bit imo, it's all opinions.
And for me, Ndiaye should be in the box, not running yards.

Re: The Rebuild
You can’t just dismiss it from one game though.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 7:33 pm Yeah kinda does really... He's better on the left and we need someone who is better as the 10.
Move a player who's thrived at LW in to a spot he doesn't look as good to accommodate a new player, and not bother address the need for a proper 10 in the process is about as backward thinking as you can get.
How about we just buy a RW and a proper AM who is creative and able to supply through balls for a striker we constantly say needs them in order to be effective? Seems a bit more joined up in the thinking category don't ya think?
He’s played there quite a bit during his career and suits what moyes wants in that position. Someone to play on the edge of the game, getting in the box and getting shots off.
If we sign a left sided player then it’s obvious that ndyiae moves to the middle.
I think moyes will try him there quite a bit.
Re: The Rebuild
He's played there plenty in his career but he's not he answer to move us forward as a club. His best work is done off the left and he's very effective there for us.
If we're buying players there seems little point buying for one of the very few positions we have where we already have an effective player and then move him elsewhere.
We can't be that desperate and gone that far down the list of targets that we can't just buy an AM and RW and instead have to buy for a position we have 2 players for and start moving the best one elsewhere.
Just buy players for the positions we actually need is all I'm asking.

Re: The Rebuild
I don’t see how you can say this so confidently when he’s played the position at a high level for Sheffield United and hardly gotten a chance to do it for Everton. One match isn’t a pattern.
Having said that, I’m not sure about Lino. Underlying numbers look good but from what I can find about him, he’s another right-footed, left-sided player who likes to cut inside. With possibly limited resources, the argument for another left winger is to acquire a more traditional, touchline-hugger who likes to cross since Mykolenko doesn’t offer much on the overlap. I’m wary of having too many players with the same profile, regardless of quality, because they ultimately have to be able to play on the same pitch.
Maybe the plan is Kubo (or another right-sided player) and Lino, in which case we’d have pretty solid attacking midfield depth. Lino-Ndiaye-Kubo to start with Alcaraz and McNeil providing coverage sounds alright.
Need enough leftover for a CM with ball progression skills as well, not to mention extra depth at fullback.
The picture won’t be clear until we actually make another move. I can kind of see the rationale behind all of the links, will start to feel a bit more confident when we actually do another thing.

Re: The Rebuild
Sociedad are back from Japan early next week to play Osasuna on Wednesday. We could well see Kubo fly to John Lennon on Monday/Tuesday instead..

Re: The Rebuild
We're a Kubo and a Luiz away from our first team being transformed. We obviously need more but two players with these profiles would catapult us up a few levels.
Said a few times but we need a left back as our third priority, Myko is solid defensively, we need some attacking output there though, some genuine threat. We're too easy to stop the way we are.

Re: The Rebuild
Buy Kubo
Buy Hackney
Loan Lino with obligation to buy
Loan Aznou with obligation to buy
Loan Vagiannidis with obligation to buy
Loan Luiz with option to buy
Will be this summer and next summers transfers pretty much done, but would look good!

Re: The Rebuild
I think the only issue here would be the obligations to buy. It would potentially tie our hands completely next summer and may even leave us unable to take up the option on Luiz if he comes in and bosses it.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 5:59 am Buy Kubo

We have to consider that we may need to strengthen in a few more areas next summer too. Next summer at the latest, I'd like us to be bringing in Gana's long term successor. We've not seen whether Barry has what it takes in the PL yet, so we could be having to splash out up top on a star striker. We need to bring in players for the here and now, but we also need to ensure that we keep some options open and have some cash available for next Summer and beyond. Otherwise, we end up back where we started with an unbalanced squad on big wages, no money to replace and no way of shifting them on.

Re: The Rebuild
In terms of midfield depth, is nobody counting Charly?
If we are looking at players like McAtee or moving Ndiaye inside then I wouldn't be surprised to see Charly playing deeper as he can definitely progress the ball well.

Big Timmy H been reading this thread
Tim Howard: “The transfer window is so interesting because you want new signings and if you don’t hear anything, then the worry starts to build. David Moyes knows how to work the transfer market better than anyone I’ve ever known.”
“To compete for European places, the squad as a whole wasn’t good enough. That needs to change and while I don’t think that can change in one transfer window, you can make big strides towards it.”
