The Rebuild
Re: The Rebuild
I know Chelsea like to throw money around like confetti but they paid £5m not to sign Sancho, that's not a good sign.
For all Moyes has managed to get a tune out of players in the past there's been plenty he hasn't as well, I'd stay well clear of Sancho, it's several years since he's shown any desire to be a top player, I don't think the cost would match the reward.

Welcome to The Rebuild thread.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 10:44 am Why even mention him?
He’s looking at Juventus and Dortmund
He’s not going to have any interest in us
Re: The Rebuild
Well they paid £5mill not to sign him because it was the loan clause payment, and if they had signed him they’d be paying a lot in wages, and they’ve got many other optionsGash wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 10:46 am I know Chelsea like to throw money around like confetti but they paid £5m not to sign Sancho, that's not a good sign.

I don’t think any of those apply to us, so it’s horses for courses
But it’s prob moot, I doubt we are likely to go in for him
Re: The Rebuild
I know it was part of the agreement, but they paid £5m because they deemed it less of a financial write off than getting him in and paying him his wages compared to the benefit that would give them. Either way it's not a great endorsement of him.fxceltic wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 11:28 am Well they paid £5mill not to sign him because it was the loan clause payment, and if they had signed him they’d be paying a lot in wages, and they’ve got many other options

Re: The Rebuild
I'm sure they only just avoided relegation that season. It was the following season they had a little bit of a run.superpull wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 7:41 am Remember everyone taking the piss out of Forest when they came up because they immediately bought 300 players and massively overspent?
It's a gamble that you can gell quick enough to get enough out of them to stay up. But if it works it raises the bar and you can establish yourself. (Don't even think Sunderland will have to worry about points deductions like Forest did as PSR is getting binned soon, surely?)

Turned out to be a club of the most epic bellend proportions - but i was impressed with that gamble (and the further gamble that the could eat a moderate points deduction the following year)
Re: The Rebuild
Sancho is a dumpster fire. He's a classic case of failing upwards and will eventually disappear to Saudi because he'll run out of elite teams willing to pay him to do bugger all.
He'd probably benefit from stepping down to someone like us if he had genuine fire in his belly to reignite his career, but he doesn't and wouldn't.

Re: The Rebuild
He was and is simply paid too much for his level as a modern day footballer. He hit the jackpot and Man Utd have paid the price for very poor recruitment.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 2:16 pm Sancho is a dumpster fire. Classic case of talent but poor attitude and poor work ethic.
Work ethic and the right attitude always beats talent.

Re: The Rebuild
Worse case scenario, we're still short on numbers but bring in maybe 2 more signings and some loans to pad the squad before the end of the window.
I'd still want us to prioritize a CM and a right back over everything else.
We can manage without a right winger for now if we can get a decent right back who can play both ways.
We can't go into the season without a midfielder who can make us tick, and be responsible with the ball in the middle of the park without being an absolute ghost, james garner I'm looking at you.

Re: The Rebuild
I like the idea of Dibling, but he doesn't seem ready.
One for the future for sure.
But we don't half need some serious steel in the middle of the park.
Luiz or anyone similar is what we are desperate for.

We do like extra keepers on the bench.Evertonian418 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 4:30 pm Great, another bleedin' goalkeeper to not get excited about.
Re: The Rebuild
Would love to be a fly on the wall of our recruitment team right now. If they're going in with another bid for Dibling, go ahead and bloody do it, get it done and get another done....should be moving on multiple fronts not one at a time. If Sunderland can attract players who played in the champions league last season, there's no reason why we can't get players over the line other than poor negotiation skills.
