The Friedkins have history of walking away from a seemingly done deal.

The kid has bags of talent and I would love to see him here, but if Southampton are trying to make mugs of us over the price, then it’s not to be.

Shouldn’t be spending £40m plus on this lad anyway so I don’t really care if we’ve pulled out.

Better options out there and we need a different type of player.

Think Southampton are going to realise they've fucked it here not accepting £40m offered.

Even if he has a great season in the Championship and puts up 20 g+a he'll be into his final year of his contract and I dont think he'll be rated much more highly.

Maybe I'm wrong and he'll put up a big season and go for £50m next summer or sign a new contract but that is a big risk for them.

Seen it with Palace and Guehi - rejected £65 mill in January and now, with a year left on his contract, they're hoping (and struggling) to get £40 million.

I mean, he won the FA Cup with them but 6 months later, they'll probably be lucky to get half what they offered.

So yeah, big risk for Southampton.

I take it that 5pm deadline means he'll be back training with Southampton.
Absolutely gorgeous village BTW, with loads of nice places nearby too like Branscombe and Lyme Regis, Sidmouth. Highly recommended if you want a UK weekend break.

If he has an absolute breakout season in the Championship, someone probably would pay around the same even next summer. Although I doubt anyone is going to give them the sell on % they're looking for too.

However, if he's putting in more average numbers they'll be looking at losing him to half that or even on a free later as I doubt he'd sign another deal with them (although he could of course go the Gnonto route).

I'm not sure a resurrection of a deal close to deadline day would be likely either as we've seen before clubs don't want to be left stranded without a player. So we probably are moving on to see the next in line...seemingly Fatawu, George, etc as I doubt we're going to wait around for Southampton to change their minds.

If he's back in the Southampton team next couple of games it's probably confirmation it's done for now.

Think it's become a need more than a want now, and we know how much cash we've got now that our biggest signing is over the line.

He does sound like a GOT character. Like a swordsmith aprentice or something. If he does finish the last book and mentions something about an everton transfer i think that will clear up any doubts that were living inside the matrix. That and the 2 pickfords

The more I see of this kid the more I like him. Very uneasy with the price though. You’d have to bank on him doubling in value and have Southampton ease off in this supposed 25% sell-on which seems outlandish.

It’s not going away. I think they have looked around and probably feel that it’s better to overpay for someone that is more likely to be a sure thing. As long as we don’t get our pants pulled down, but that’s looking more likely the closer we get to the deadline. We need a RW desperately.

Less worried about making a massive profit on him. He would be here for years OR a massive bid comes in. The kid won’t lose that talent on the ball.
