Everton managers by likability

Post

Of the Everton managers you've seen, who did you like most to least (regardless of how they performed)?

I'd go:

1. Ancelotti
2. Silva
3. Moyes
4. Lampard
5. Martinez
6. Allardyce
7. Dyche
8. Koeman
9. Benitez

Not sure why Ancelotti is considered so nice. Not sure i particularly like any on the list. Maybe Silva in 1st. Lampard maybe 2nd. Rest of them seem to shit on us in 1 way or another

The below list pretty much reads as who I would most like to meet in a bar and chat with haha.

1. Duncan Ferguson - yes, I’m counting caretaker managers too. Wouldn’t want him at all as a permanent manager here though. However, love the Scot and his passion, would be more than happy to have a few drinks and shots with him. Could be quite a session - in fact make it a pub crawl.

2. Carlo Ancelotti - seemed a really chill and humble guy for someone who had won so many major trophies. I’d get him to choose which wine to order.

3. Roberto Martinez - crap manager in the end but seems the sort of guy you’d enjoy going to a nice restaurant and talk about footie for hours. I would get him to take a shot every time he uses the word “phenomenal” or “fine margins”.

4. David Moyes - Another I’d happily have a few pints of Tennants with, and chat footie and Glasgow life. I’m sure he’d have some great Everton related stories to share too.

5. David Unsworth - another caretaker but passionate about the club. Wasn’t a convincing caretaker manager but seems a nice fella. Would certainly enjoy a drinking session with him.

6. Frank Lampard - Friendly geezer, probably good to chat with about current events, would let him choose which bar in London to go to as long as it’s his tab.

7. Marco Silva - Erm, seems like a decent fella, if I’m honest probably one of our most forgettable managers in the past 20 years. He’d be more the guy I’d bump into at the pub and say “hello, how are you? Good? Glad to hear, erm, I won’t disturb you any longer, enjoy your evening”.

8. Sean Dyche - Really disappointing last season with how he gave up at the end. I’d more than likely mistake him as the bouncer outside the bar. Not sure I’d find conversation with him particularly engaging, I’d be looking for an excuse to go home early.

9. Ronald Koeman - Nah, not likeable, too aloof and disconnected. I could imagine sitting listening to him talk about Barcelona and his playing career and fall asleep.

10. Rafael Benitez - Haha, I’m sure he’d make a good waiter or bartender. Otherwise I can’t think of anything likeable.

I'd have Lampard much lower. I found his chirpy mockney chirruping when he somehow fluked avoiding defeat made me find his sombre tones after the inevitable incompetent defeats even more grating.

The fact his immediate predecessor had been Benitez made me not realise this for a while though.

I like the story in Duncan Ferguson's book about when Carlo decided to meet up with him on holiday:

"I was on my mate's boat in Croatia, right? And Carlo's in the vicinity on his own boat. He's on the phone. "I'm coming to see you." "OK, no problem, Carlo."

"I gave him the coordinates and he's coming out of the horizon in this big boat. He paid a right few quid for it. I could see him waving. As he's getting closer and closer, his boat is getting smaller. Our boat was about four times bigger than his. He spent his week on my mate's boat. His boat got left. It was really funny, like. A great fella. We just bonded."

Really depends what we mean by likability. As people or as professionals?

For example, I don’t think Silva was the most likeable person but it is really regrettable that things didn’t work out. However, I liked Dyche and Lampard as people, but you could see after a short while that they weren’t going to be long term solutions in a professional capacity.

Koeman and Benitez (I refuse to call him Rafa) are the worst. Just dreadful all round. Fat Sam is close third.
