Rate the Toffee - #3 David Unsworth
Re: Rate the Toffee - #2 Mikel Arteta
I went with 8, but only because I think there are a couple of levels above, ie Lukaku/Baines 9 and Big Nev 10.

Re: Rate the Toffee - #2 Mikel Arteta
If we allowed half marks, he'd be 7.5 for me. I don't know why but as a kid he was always in my slightly lower echelon of the Baines, Jags, Cahill period compared to the very, very top tier (spoiler: Baines). He clearly did well for us, but I just had other favourites at the time.
Really disappointing how he's been since he left, and that probably colours my rating too. It feels like he scribbled out his time with us on his CV and just highlights his time at Arsenal and Man City.
Anthony Gordon and his silly branded headband aside, probably amongst the ex-players that disappoint me the most.

To be fair to him he went on to win things at Arsenal and learned his coaching from Pep. He does speak well about us when he's interviewed he's just a wind up and that's hard to ignore
Re: Rate the Toffee - #2 Mikel Arteta
Based on my criteria for Ross, I think Arteta just makes it in to the 8 category. He was brilliant for 2 and half seasons, the best of the Moyes era alongside Baines. He could probably have picked his club but always seemed loyal. Then that knee ligament injury against Newcastle really fucked him. In the end the move to Arsenal didnt ruin the fans, which I think it would have done pre-injury.

A 9 from me too, was gutted to lose him and wanted him when we got Ancelotti.
Loved the triangles of play with him, Baines, Pienaar and Osman.
I hope we’re his next stop after Arsenal.

Arteta with 8.36 rating in the end.
For Burnley, he had one season there, David Unsworth is up next. I'm going to sit this one out because I only really saw the end of his time here.

On the pich, a 6 for me. He was versatile, CB or FB, think he had 1 england cap v... USA? Scored in Moyes 1st game, good club man, left and said he changed his mind and immediately came straight back didnt he, caretaker manager... can't really ask for a better servant.
Yeah as a footballer a 6, but a good 6 but I'll nudge him up 1 to 7, as he is just a top bloke and bleeds blue.
Ah shit already went for 6.

A 7 for me, loved Rhino, great when he burst on the scene. If I remember correctly he made his debut at white heart lane and scored a screamer (could easily be very wrong).
Tough as nails when he went rampaging down the left wing, I remember a game against Chelsea at Goodison, and late on there was a 30-70 in their winger’s favour, took the ball clean as a whistle and their lad 6 foot in the air. And who can forget that goal against Fulham.
A very underrated full back, not so as a centre back, although he was immense alongside Waggy in 94-95.
Avery cool penalty taker, and scored some great goals.
Don’t remember him being at Burnley, just the one season at West Ham and the one week at Villa before Mrs Unsworth changed his mind to come back to us.
Evertonian through and through.

I can remember him being a bit of a boo boy at GP and getting dogs abuse. Loved a big switch and took a mean pen. Generally I liked him especially early on

Started out as a really good centre half prospect, even won an England cap against Japan. Turned into an okay fullback probably a 6 as a player.
Think as u23 manager and (was he academy director too) he was awful. Prioritised winning over developing players which led to us playing lots of players in their early 20s who obviously had no future at Premier league level. Didn't he leave with bullying rumours circling him and went on to be appointed by Oldham and was unsuccessful there.
Good blue but as a player hes a 6. As staff hes probably a zero and evidence of the stupid sentimental decisions we were making at that time

Watch him in the 95 FA Cup semifinal at centre back aged 21. One of the best footballers on the pitch.

One of those who gave his all, one of us, top blue etc.
Very average as a player but had good games.
Boss pen taker like.
Say a steady 6.5

Probably a 7, just one of those middling players who had certain moments that maybe just moved him slightly above bog standard.
