Re: Gana
Good post! Tbh I just think he's a very ordinary player who has kicked on a decent amount this season, but regardless can't fault the info in this post and enjoy looking at something that's real and not just an opinion not backed up by anything.Cods wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:08 pm Apologies, in 10 out off 21 EPL games he has played in, (or 48% - quite nit picky to be honest), he has played at either left or right full back. I didn't refer to total minutes, partly as that data isn't available.
More complete passes at a better rate,
Passing distance
Garner 754
Wharton 621
Progressive carrying distance
Garner 68.3
Wharton 65.2
Carries into the final 1/3
Garner 1.10
Wharton 1.09
Disposessed
Garner 0.24
Wharton 0.76
Passes received
Garner 36.2
Wharton 30.5
Progressive passes received
Garner 1.58
Wharton 0.87
The only stats I can find that were out was # of progressive carries & passes, not sure if I picked up the non per 90 number, or if last night's Sunderland game data had since been included.
Either way, progressive receives at more than double Wharton's total would seem to counteract that smallish discrepancy, given it's difficult to both deliver and receive progressive passes based upon their pitch location definitions.
An important point to note is that none of his carries from the edge of our box to just short of the half way line count, nor do any progressive passes delivered from the defensive 40% of the pitch, which I think might skew Garner's stats considerably, given his deeper role.
He just gets and uses far more of the ball in general. And receives it in better and more advanced positions. And scores, and assists.

I'm not?Audrey Horne wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 1:47 pm But he is a kopite? And it does affect my opinion of him? So I don't get why you're making out I pretend it doesn't?
Re: Gana
Well he's currently getting his kecks pulled down by John McGinn and hiding from the ball but if he starts running the show I will gladly come back in here
Re: Gana
Thanks. I think he's decent enough, but more importantly he's an important player for us right now. He's certainly improved this season. I'm not even a fan, can see a time in the near future that we'll need an upgrade. I'm not sure anyone is suggesting he's the second coming of Pirlo.
He just receives far too much criticism on here sometimes, the constant negativity is really disappointing especially as one of our better players this season.
Looks like he should have had another assist to further improve those attacking stats, given O'Briens header was for some reason chalked off.
That with a mammoth 29 defensive contributions (for context, the next best was OBrien and Tarks with 12, and Buendia with 10), another decent game from him apparently, but I havent watched it yet.

Yeah he was very good again today, those stats don't lie.Cods wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 10:01 pm Thanks. I think he's decent enough, but more importantly he's an important player for us right now. Only one in the team who understands how to sit and cover, all our other midfielders go walk about but his reading of the game and positional sense is very good.
I think it's perfectly fine to compare him to Wharton and Anderson, who else should we compare him to? All young English midfielders so it's good to see how he stacks up. I don't mind seeing stats about how he shapes up... Think it's a good barometer of how he is actually doing Vs other more favoured players.
Anyway he's having a good season, and given his improvement under Moyes there's a possibility he could develop further imo.
Would love to see him being more brave on the ball and more progressive but maybe that's the next stage of his development. Happy to give him the time to show he can or can't develop that side, but as it stands he deserves a lot of credit imo for his performances this season.
