Thierno Barry
Re: Thierno Barry
Shame we weren't in a better position to get Strand Larsen.
48M was too much for him but he would have been ideal.
Think Beto is gone this summer regardless. We need someone to be able to rely on whilst Barry is developing.

Definitely. A good forward whose ideally proven in the PL has to be a priority this summerCozzie wrote:Shame we weren't in a better position to get Strand Larsen.

Hope I never hear the words prem proven again.
Suits the prem, fine. Played 2 seasons for someone shite in the prem tacking £30m onto his price, no thank you

Re: Thierno Barry
Has he stopped sulking yet or is he still sat, head down, in the dugout unaware everyone has gone home days ago.
Re: Thierno Barry
I’d rather he was thoroughly pissed off with himself than laughing and joking with his team mates when he went off but the sulking did seem excessive. Maybe he genuinely was gutted and needed someone to go over and give him a bit of reassurance

Re: Thierno Barry
Hes a bit pathetic. Him and beto are the worst pair of strikers in the entire league. He couldn't look when he came off. We shouldn't have to. Massive flop.

Re: Thierno Barry
Fucking hell the body language police are out in force again.
What if he was sat there thinking about his performance and thinking about what he could have done better, while it was still fresh in his mind?
I’m not saying he was, I’m not even saying you’re wrong, but condemning the lad for thinking you know what he’s thinking…? Let’s just calm down a bit.

I want him to be gutted, he should be. Shit flicks instead of holding the ball up, missed a sitter by being too casual, missed another where he probably should have scored, overall didn't play well and lost most physical battles.
Proper 2/10 performance and I'm probably being kind there.
Get the feeling sometimes he thinks he's Balotelli when he doesn't have the talent for that. Not that things worked out well for him anyway.
Needs to just do the basics properly, and I'm hoping he had plenty of self reflection whilst burying his head in his shirt.
Still think there's a very good player in there, but he's got less than half a season to prove that before Moyes buys someone to take his minutes and he spends a lot more time on the bench as a result.

Re: Thierno Barry
There’s thinking about his performance and there’s sulking like a spoilt brat, I get him having his head down, but to be still head in shirt 10-15 minutes later is just feeling sorry for himself, and judging by the other subs not consoling him says a lot.Toddacelli wrote: ↑Thu Feb 12, 2026 7:39 am Fucking hell the body language police are out in force again.

It’s who he is, he’s been like that all season.
I’ve said all season he looks a dud, was made up that it looked like he was proving me wrong, but I still think he has no future in the English game. And I think he’ll struggle being a back up striker if we sign someone else in the summer.
Re: Thierno Barry
Think massive flop is a huge exaggeration.
Yeah ideally we wouldnt be pinning all our hopes on him hitting the ground running, as anyone with half a brain could tell you a lad of his background stepping into the prem might take time?
That said, I’d rather a player just fucking played well for gods sake

Re: Thierno Barry
Massive flop is harsh. I do think his potential probably isnt worth what we paid and he certainly wasn't the signing we needed.brap2 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 12, 2026 11:13 am Think massive flop is a huge exaggeration.

Hes more a failing of the transfer committee as it appears are almost all of them.
Re: Thierno Barry
We paid £27m I think for him, I think that's pretty cheap for a striker and probably about right for his current ability and potential.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Thu Feb 12, 2026 11:41 am Massive flop is harsh. To put it in context...
Sesko has 6 premier league goals
Waltermade has 7
Gyokeres has 8
Takes time for young players to adjust to the league, and most have struggled, especially forwards.
If Barry could just get his head around doing the basics better, which he's shown in flashes before reverting back to budget Balotelli, then he'll be well worth the fee.
Re: Thierno Barry
If his hold-up play was great then he'd probably get more of a pass on the goals front. Watching Brobbey for Sunderland then I think that's Moyes' wet dream for a striker even though he doesn't score a lot.
Obviously injuries and definitely wages were a factor to not agreeing new contract terms but we'd undoubtedly be doing better on the pitch with Dom this season.
That's not to say we should have signed him but I don't think there's much argument at this point we'd have been better with him.

Re: Thierno Barry
He had a shit game. He's had some ok games, he's had a few good ones and scored some good goals.
He's obviously reacted poorly to missing those chances, I took it as frustrated/angry with himself rather than a sulk but none of us know really.
Unfortunately he's become a bit of lightening rod for frustration related to missing yet another opportunity to push on, and to our shit home form.
I hope he bounces back and we see him grab a few more before the end of the season, even with the misses he's offering more than beto so fingers crossed the team get behind him and we see him doing another 15 celebrations against united.

Yeah thats it for me. Its not the amount of goals more the amount of games where he contributes next to nothing.
Id take 27m for him now and thats after a season of development.
I think individually most of our signings have been okay and have some potential for profit but they are also mainly a bit meh too and dont make much sense as a collection
