I can see weight to that we will get a RB later in the window rumour. If Spence comea back from the WC Sunday he still will have 3 weeks holiday before being in training. So if it is him, he probably wont sign until mid August.

If we dont get Grealish back id rather we give one of our youngsters a go, rather than an average player on the decline. He is better than McNeil, but McNeil should never have been near the starting 11 in the first place, but he was for reasons only Moyes will ever understand.

Given that we have Ndiaye, Dibling, George and then extra cover in Rohl and Armstrong you could argue its not a huge priority, even if we dont get Grealish. Im more worried about how we fill the Gueye void as if we dont get in an adequate replacement there I think it'll be a very long and more painful season than usual
I don't want to see Rohl or Armstrong out wide, if we do that we've learnt absolutely nothing.

Ndaiye and George for LW / Murphy and Dibling for RW.

Means both younger players can come in and get game time (if Moyes allows them to do so), but we have actual Premier League level players starting most weeks.

Murphy is a proper classic Moyes player, he works extremely hard, he has good end product, and his attitude is exceptional. We do have to actually give Moyes some players he wants to use, and if that £15m we spent on Grealish's loan last season has to be used elsewhere should it not be an option again, then there's not much better we'd get for it than Murphy.

Obviously I'd rather we spent £50m on a class 22 year old, but that's not likely, so sometimes you have to look at what will improve you within budget.

I've watched Murphy a lot, and he's just a very reliable player, and underrated by those who don't watch him week in week out.

Not sure I've seen the phrases "classic Moyes player" and "good end product" used together before :)

Haha yeah fair point, I meant more he's extremely dependable, excellent character and works very very hard.

The end product is a bonus on top of that.

Murphy - 25 goal involvements over the past 3 seasons.

Grealish - 15 goal involvements over the past 3 seasons.

I'm not saying Murphy is a better player than Grealish, but his numbers and availability are considerably higher.

Murphy is rubbish.

Has awful technique for a premier league player.

He found a way to be effective but he is so poor.

At 31 that effectiveness will start to drop.

Terrible if we’re going in for him.

I used to think he was really shit, one of those players you'd groan if you saw on a team sheet.

Something changed though and around 27-28 he just massively improved. A late bloomer which is rare but does happen.

I've watched him a lot and live multiple times and disagree that he's poor technically. He's not Grealish or Ndaiye technique wise but he's solid and more than good enough in this regard.

He is the very definition of a mid table very average workhorse. Which gets you a decent and lucrative career these days when your legs can move quickly and you still have the engine to get up and down.

They very quickly drop off a cliff when age starts to catch up.

I think Moyes likes Jake at rb for long throws and extra height plus allows him to get tark in alongside Jared I hope I’m wrong but I fear this will happen

I don't think we should.

We should be buying for a longer term vision and if Moyes can't integrate and develop the players, then he has to move on. The likelihood is that he'll move on at the end of the new season anyway.

£15m on a 31 year old who has had 18 months of productivity in their career, plays in a position reliant on pace, and will likely want a 4 or 5 year deal is not a good use of a limited budget.

Well I definitely wouldn't advocate for him on a 4-5 year deal. My argument very much comes from a use of around the £15m we'd spend otherwise on Grealish, should we not be able to replicate last season's deal.

£15m on a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd and McNeil's wages would be the deal I'd say as the only one that would be palatable.

Whoa.

£15m?

I thought this was on a free and even that would be a bad idea.
