He wasn't pushing to sell branthwaite, just to spend the money we'll get for him.
He was pushing to sell onana because he's one of our only other sellable assets and we won't be buying anyone without that money. Plus he's not exactly setting the world on fire and if someone offers over 50 that might let us bring in two players in exchange, then it's worth it?
The lad from burnley was just an example, not a fucking transfer policy and the highest calibre of player we should be aiming for.

Re: Relegation
crossing my fingers it wont happen - now I have 2 very good reasons (unless I can get rid of my tickets in Lower Gwladys..The Doc wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:26 pm There's no way it'll be allowed to stand that we've had two occasions of penalties, points being deducted, for two separate periods of financial assessments, applied in one single season and it relegates us. I'll get naked in the Lower Gwladys if that happens.
Re: Relegation
I'm surprised the Points Deduction Derby against Forest hasn't been moved for TV. Big relegation six pointer, especially if we get hit with another deduction.

Do you not think we have enough ex Burnley players in our team already along with their former manager I’d say we should be looking elsewhere but if you are a dyche disciple then that’s your opinionUnsyisaRhino wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 10:46 am oh fuck off, you're such a miserable twat.

Re: Relegation
I'm pretty sure we'll only be buying Burnley players because we are financially fucked and they've been relegated so the price is reasonable.
Some people seem to think that Dyche would happily choose a Burnley player over a top 6 level player if given full autonomy which is just weird.

Re: Relegation
We haven’t even signed any Burnley players since dyche got the job.
I don’t know what pool of players people think we’ll be dipping into, but whoever goes down we will be looking at who is possibly available for a good price who can offer us something.
It’s why we spent last summer chasing a load of players from Leeds, Southampton and Leicester.
This is where we are unless something drastically changes in the coming months.

Re: Relegation
I think my concern with Dyche would be that I would like us to continue looking in the European market, because there's still a lot of bargains to be had, but if Dyche is heavily involved in recruitment, I would worry that he has quite a limited UK-based bias on players he would want. I know he brought in a couple of foreign players at Burnley, so it wasn't all UK based but they were the exception to the rule.
When I look at the way the teams trains and plays, he seems to clearly favour organisation and off the ball work, and I worry he would look for more James Garners than potential Amadou Onanas, which would take us down the road of getting worse not better.

Re: Relegation
I still think Thelwell will be looking after the recruitment rather than Dyche. Obviously Dyche will have some say in and while we're a fairly rudderless ship it's hard to know exactly what will happen but I think he's got his head screwed on. At least being skint and having an absent owner means there will be no more of the rotten recruitment and vanity purchases that we've seen over the last few years.

Re: Relegation
This is exactly my worry/point as well the Onana deal while expensive at the time is the kind of deal we should be looking at to get better talent in the squadBluedylan1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 1:30 pm I think my concern with Dyche would be that I would like us to continue looking in the European market, because there's still a lot of bargains to be had, but if Dyche is heavily involved in recruitment, I would worry that he has quite a limited UK-based bias on players he would want. Re: Relegation
I think a concern with that would be that presumably Thelwell was central to getting Danjuma, Beto and Chermiti and Dyche has barely played any of them, so there will be a fundamental disconnect happening.Gash wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 1:58 pm I still think Thelwell will be looking after the recruitment rather than Dyche. If you gave Dyche the choice of another Garner or Onana I'm not having he'd choose the Garner level player.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 1:30 pm I think my concern with Dyche would be that I would like us to continue looking in the European market, because there's still a lot of bargains to be had, but if Dyche is heavily involved in recruitment, I would worry that he has quite a limited UK-based bias on players he would want. Finances will dictate what level we purchase at. As much as we'd all love more £35m players around the age of 20 the reality is we can't really afford to shop in that market, and that will be reflected in who we purchase.

Oh we won't be spending £35m on anyone. You're maybe misunderstanding what I'm saying or oversimplifying perhaps. There are bargains to be had in Europe for way less than that.AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 4:04 pm If you gave Dyche the choice of another Garner or Onana I'm not having he'd choose the Garner level player.

I'm talking about the types of players that Dyche will favour, if he does have a significant involvement in recruitment. Judging on how tragically bad we are with the ball, and how mostly good we are without the ball, I think it's fair to assume that our recruitment focus isn't going to involve quality on the ball or technical ability. I think it's fair to assume that it might involve hard work, energy, attitude, fitness levels etc.
I think we'll trend to more Garners than Onanas if Dyche has significant involvement.
