Even if Southampton do have 125m to spend they are still only going to attract a certain standard of player. It probably means they are more likely to pay over the odds for average players.

You don't spend £125m because that has to include:

Transfer fees
Agent fees
Signing on fees
Premier League wages for new signings
% increase for existing players wages

£125m sounds amazing but the reality is it doesn't actually go all that far, and you probably don't spend it all anyway because you're likely to go straight back down and budget accordingly so as not to boom and bust within 12 months.

A whole chunk of that figure is based on the supposedly guaranteed parachute payments they’ll get if they go back down 🤷‍♂️

Although they’re trying to get rid of them, so not that guaranteed any more

Was mentioned on Sky during the commentary, “normally would be £175 m but as they were only down one season more likely around £125 m”

The money they'll receive by getting promoted won't specifically be for transfer fees. Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United will attest to that.

The costs of running a PL club are greater than a Championship club, and they'll need to set money aside on the chance they'll get relegated.

Other clubs aren't run as badly as we are

Nah Leeds are the originals for this. They were idiots financially decades ago, looks like they have regressed

Interesting to see what stance UEFA take on this and Man City/Girona

Imagine they’ll take an easy route out and allow them to compete in the same competition due to some pathetically small technical detail
