Agree with most of this apart from the moving to help his England career. If he’s playing regularly for us and continues the high standards he’s started at (and he’ll improve), he’ll get picked. I mean even Michael Keane got picked for England while playing for us!AjaxAndy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 1:00 pm City have plenty of top class CBs, just don't see him going there any time soon.
He'll end going to the best option who's willing to pay the most at the time we actively try and sell him. That might be Man UTD, it might be Liverpool... It could be Chelsea although I think that'd be the worst move he could make, but it's still a possibility.
All would be a significant step up from us though and I don't see him turning his nose up at any in the hope someone better comes along 12 months down the line.
Think people underestimate the pull of teams winning trophies and playing in Europe every year. Especially when the impact a move like that would have on his England career Vs staying with us.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I think his England place is just a matter of time regardless who he’s with, and if he’s with us next season, i wouldn’t be surprised if Tarks gets a call up along side him.
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I think he will get picked for England, but I don't think Southgate or whoever is in charge will see him as a starter until he's playing regular European football.NickNack wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 2:07 pm Agree with most of this apart from the moving to help his England career. One season playing regularly in Europe and continuing to develop as he currently is and it'd be impossible not to start him ahead of someone like Maguire.
I just don't think scrapping it out at the bottom with us leads to that kind of thinking by an international manager, unless you're maybe a once in a generation talent like Rooney was.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I think he'll be one of those players who gets a cap, and unless he has a particularly off day, is just then an England player who's in the team from that point on.
Unfortunately Southgate is an exceptionally boring and cautious man, so it's led to things like him playing a 32 year old Lewis Dunk (who clearly has no real future in international football) in a friendly before picking Branthwaite, who may well emerge one of the most prominent defenders of his generation.
Under other managers he'd have caps already, and would have a strong chance of starting for England in the Euros.

£80m for a league challenging team. £100m for United. They want to get in before the sharks circle then they’ve got to pay the money or fuck off. I reckon he stays for another year tbh especially if we can get good money for Onana and sell and other two for around £10m

I want someone who will give us a young player back as a swap, plus another one on a free loan (preferably 2 years). That seems like something City might find interesting.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Any player someone will give us in part exchange would be available for us to buy if we wished too. So just get as much as we can and then sign whoever is the best target.Evertonian in NC wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 7:06 pm I want someone who will give us a young player back as a swap, plus another one on a free loan (preferably 2 years). Definitely should be looking at city's youth. They seem to develop so many great players

Agree. Hasn't done Jordan Pickford any harmNickNack wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 2:07 pm Agree with most of this apart from the moving to help his England career.
