Ethics in football? Chasing unicorns. If we want to exist or strive in football we have to accept there are none
Re: 777 Partners Takeover
Guys, it’s one man in a consortium which may or may not buy the club.
We’re all getting way ahead of ourselves with this.

Re: 777 Partners Takeover
I dont think so, it's being reported. We are only discussing it.
It's not like it's been made up out of thin air.
If we were linked with a player we would discuss the pros and cons of signing them.
Re: 777 Partners Takeover
That's not what Ram means, people are going on like we're being bought over by the Saudis when we're not, an "unnamed Saudi family member" has been linked with a consortium who have put a bid in. All this "morally bankrupt" stuff is a bit over the top, for all we know the guy's chipping in £10m, this is nothing like Newcastle Utd etc and at the moment he/she is just a part in a big jigsaw and they may not even get near to buying the club.
It's far less morally bankrupt than getting into bed with Usmanov but we all turned a blind eye to that.

We didn't realise we were that involved at the time to turn a blind eye.

We knew usmanov was involved with moshiri from the get go, and we knew we were much much more involved than these current rumours of a bid by a consortium that contains an unnamed member of a Saudi royal house.
We had memes of usmanov on a yacht. We were singing about being rich. Panorama did a special moshiri and usmanov and we still ignored it. We knew we just didn't really ultimately care that much.
Not ashamed to say I don't think I'll care that much about the consortium either, truth be told. Certainly not more than I do about oligarchs or Americans.

How do you know the Saudi person will be "that" involved in any purchase of the club? Is there a level of involvement that makes it okay, like they can come in with what you thought was an Usmanov level of involvement but not anymore?
Even before it was signed people were saying that Usmanov was involved too and would be coming on board, lots were genuinely excited at the prospect. We were in deeper with him than someone linked to consortium who may or may not take over and even when it became clear that he was involved and we were taking inflated sponsorship deals and up front stadium naming rights from him I don't recall anyone calling us morally bankrupt etc and suddenly taking the moral high ground.

Re: 777 Partners Takeover
There were lots of conversations around the ethics of possible Usmanov involvement at the time, so it's not like it was completely ignored or glossed over, but ultimately what can anyone do about any of it anyway?
As a fan, you get which ever billionaire(s) you end up with, and you hope that they're slightly less exploitative/murderous than other ones. And if they are one of the really bad ones, you can't even do anything about that anyway. That's what supporting a Premier League team is now.
The modern world makes hypocrites of us all. It's unavoidable. So you might as well support your team, and just hope for positive things.

Re: 777 Partners Takeover
Don't remember Usmanov's involvement being mentioned initially at all but could easily be (and probably am) wrong about that. Would like some links to such when Moshiri took over in 2016 if that's the case?
Also Usmanov's involvement in the club was never official, so it's difficult to get riled up and protest something that is going on behind the scenes and can be easily denied. Not that I disagree about the Saudi consortium stuff being overblown at this point.
