If we go in to the season with our main option being a guy who repeatedly showed he wasn't anywhere near the standard required we'll be in big trouble.

It's a struggle to even advocate for him as adequate back up to a main striker he was that bad.

Yes a full pre season might help him a bit, but it won't change him in to a fully functioning premier league striker as he doesn't have the basics tools required.

Fully expect and hope either DCL signs a new deal or we sell him and bring in a replacement, and ideally flog Beto and do likewise.

His touch and movement is miles off dcl it would be a major downgrade if he is our starting striker

Depends on what you’re asking him to do.

He’s definitely not a back to goal player. He won’t win or retain possession nearly as often as DCL with traditional target man service. Chermiti looks way ahead of him on that front.

Get a creative three of McNeil-Ndiaye-Gnonto behind him and give him more service into space to run onto and I imagine it would be a different story. He’s pacy for his size and a handful for any defender running onto the ball with a full head of steam (sort of like a poor man’s Lukaku).

Big hypothetical though because Dyche loves traditional target man play. I don’t know what a Dyche side looks like without it.

He does, but he has had small, in behind type strikers score goals for him in the past.

Beto obviously isn’t small but looks to me like he wants to play in behind and run with the ball as opposed to the back to play stuff where he can look clumsy.

Either way, we need to get a striker to allow us to send Chermiti out on loan more than anything. He can’t have another year wasted on the bench.

If Beto plays then N'diaye will need to be playing off him. Beto and Doucs is a recipe for disaster.

Obviously that’s a lot of signings but if we can control the ball more and get in behind teams then hold up play won’t be as essential from our striker.
Agree with that.
Could it be counter-attacking through balls launched from a low defensive block. It's what he did well at Udinese. We'll need a bit of quality if we're going to hold onto the ball, I guess that's where Ndiaye comes in, but we've not much other quality, other than McNeil, currently in the squad.

I just thought after the positive piece regarding Beto's improved finishing at pre-season training, and the smiling photos that it might be a nudge away from focussing on DCL's departure.

The wording suggests that it would be which would be ridiculous as we haven’t even paid for him yet. If we were selling him you don’t say to the player feel free to find a club, just confirms the report is nonsense, might well be sold but not up to him to find a club.

Yeah, the big move that Toney thought was coming doesn't appear to be materialising.
