Amadou Onana
Re: Amadou Onana
Play exactly as he has for us under a different set up and he will be perceived differently.
Kick on from where he was with us and the world's his oyster.
Hope it's settled soon because our squad is looking dog sheeeeit.

Re: Amadou Onana
Still think a lot of people don't understand him as a player, because of his appearance and his physicality. People think he should be Essien, and he's a passing DM.
Re: Amadou Onana
In terms of attempting passes, completing passes, getting touches on the ball in middle of the park, he's closer to Gomes than he is anyone else.
Then in terms of defensive work he's close to Gana. Tackles + Interceptions, Ball Recoveries. Massive asset in the air as well.
Roving ball magnet who can play is my personal feeling. And I do think we are genuinely going to miss his qualities on the pitch even if it isnt obvious. You remove quality your level goes down. Our level will go down on selling him.
Hope Kalvin Philips isn't a total Dele Alli style wash out.

We removed his quality after losing 6 nil to Chelsea. Think we all noticed the results that followed

It must be nice, bliss even.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:01 pm We removed his quality after losing 6 nil to Chelsea. Think we all noticed the results that followed
Re: Amadou Onana
It is possible to recognise the type of player he is whilst being disappointed in his performances on the whole.
I’m not sure he’s quite the player people think he is but he’s talented and will probably improve being around better players.
He still has a lot to improve on himself and definitely could impose himself on games more, especially when things arent going his way.
I do think in the modern age of football fandom people can be blinded slightly by the type of player somebody is.
He wasn’t that great for us so it should be no surprise people aren’t bothered about him leaving.
I suspect we’ll still be discussing him years down the line. He’s certainly a divisive player.

Re: Amadou Onana
Emperor's new clothes, isn't it?
Everyone says he's an amazing player but I've never really (like, really) seen it with my own eyes.
I've likened him to a better version of Rodwell previously, in that he's obviously very good but we don't really know what kind of player we want him to be or how to get the best out of him.
Don't particularly want him to leave but hopefully we can use the money we get to tangibly improve quality in other areas of the pitch.

Re: Amadou Onana
There's also a middle ground between thinking he's one of the best young players in Europe and thinking James Garner is a better player

Re: Amadou Onana
I think going to Villa for £50m is a fair reflection of where he is as a player. A lot of money but not the top whack and a CL club on the rise but their first season in the competition. He could stagnate and they’ll be gutted the broke their transfer record for him or he could iron out the flaws in his game under a good manager and become world class. I’m a bit gutted we have to sell rather than develop him but it’s a good deal all round and we need to do business like this from now on
Re: Amadou Onana
I think we need to do better tbh, for a club in our position it was a huge outlay for not a huge profit. Could easily have gone wrong had he actually been as bad as gets made out.Bornblue88 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 11:00 pm I think going to Villa for £50m is a fair reflection of where he is as a player. Re: Amadou Onana
Nobody is saying he's a particularly poor player. I think that the general concensus is that he is undoubtedly very talented, but most definitely not consistently great enough for Everton to turn down an offer of £50m plus.
He has shown in little flashes that he has ability and massive potential, but he's also shown that he is just as likely to go missing in games too.
He may flourish at Villa, he may be just as inconsistent there. Nobody knows. The fact is £50m on Everton's balance sheet is much more valuable right now than a player who has the occasional flash of talent when he decides to turn up. That is the reality of where we are as a club. It's not a slur on the player's ability, more of an acknowledgement that we are not in a position to turn down good money for a player who is inconsistent.
