I would agree, is Thelwell an elite DOF? I suspect not. In his defence I would always want to judge someone on their performance in an environment set up to succeed not fail, and what he's had to work with and the way deals have had to be structured which means picking from a very limited pool isn't an environment to succeed in.
But if you look at Brighton and their joined up thinking though I'd love us to bring someone in who can really have a similar impact.
He does have an incredibly difficult job but just in terms of his signings he's been pretty dreadful.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but we should've just kept Holgate rather than loaning him out and paying part of his wage. Got a decent left or right back in would've been so much more beneficial for the squad
At the moment yes, but I don't think anyone would be thinking that if Tarks broke down and Branthwaite was out again. Imagine lining up with Keane and Holgate. We all think things are grim right now, but that would be many levels grimmer.

Would it, on the basis of things I'm assuming JOB isn't much better than Holgate, neither have overcome Keane, so it's not a great endorsement. There might've been an element of the unknown anticipation with JOB, but I think we'd come to the conclusion he's shit pretty quick
CB and GK are the 2 positions imo that it’s near impossible to ease players into. You’re the last line of Defence. Make a mistake or have a shaky performance and it’s almost certain you’ll be at fault for a goal (see Branthwaite vs Brentford). Full back slightly less so, then midfield, then forwards. Linstrøm has had a few shockers but giving the ball away in the final third or losing your man is not as nearly as catastrophic so he’s had more chances. We have had 2 senior experienced players available in Tark and Keane so it’s perfectly understandable for Jake to have more settling in time into the squad and a different country.
Jarrad will be gone in summer and the other 2 are both 31 so it’s fine to bring in a promising CB for 15m and let him settle. We were never going to bring an automatic 1st teamer in given finances and the current attractiveness of the club for so cheap.
We’ll bring another CB in to replace JB. Hopefully another gem

Who knows, but I'd bet he's miles better than Holgate given one performed well in France's top division last season and the other by all accounts was utterly shit in the championship.
It's a long season, we will get injures and when that happens we may well be very glad we signed JOB. Not everything has to have an immediate positive impact, sometimes actually thinking ahead to later in the season can be a very wise thing.

Whilst JOB is getting dropped, Holgate is getting called up, what more evidence do you need that it was a bad decision, they even reference him as a 'star'!!
West Brom star Mason Holgate has been called up to the Jamaica national team ahead of the November international break.

That's about £30m we've spent on him and Patterson to develop them sitting on the bench not getting a game and not getting sent on loan.

Add chermiti to the list

I thought Chermiti was out injured.
Yeah, he has been so probably slightly different, fully expect him to add to the bench when is if though. Although Patterson has been injured too he doesn't look anything like getting minutes at an stage of a game now he is fit. We're getting to the stage we'll have a bench with bigger transfer fees than the 11 on the pitch. Spend all that money on young players then do absolutely fuck all to develop them.

Wasn't it him who bought some crackers for Wolves when he was there?
From memory I think a lot of the Wolves recruitment was agent led, I think it was Jorge Mendes, or at least it was rumoured to be agent led anyway?
Thelwell might've been there at the time? I think we tried to adopt a similar approach with Mina Raiola as he was Brands agent at the time too, and that's how we ended up with Moise Keane, and interestingly, Raiola also tried to get us to take Balotelli at the same time!
