Jarrad Branthwaite
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Unfortunately, administration is just as likely an outcome as any sort of genuine progression.
Even if the takeover goes through, selling is the only way to generate some wiggle room to reinvest. It’ll be Onana first, you’d imagine - which should let us keep Branthwaite for another season.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
You have to keep that solid base at the back. With Pickford, Tark and Jarrad, you always have a good base to work from. It would be a last resort to dismantle that.
Onana would be much higher up the list if we needed to sell. I don’t want us to, but £50-£60m for him for us to reinvest wouldn’t be the end of the world.
Jarrad should be at least 18 months away from any sale as a minimum. Hopefully get another 2-3 years from him before a big move.

People need to stop getting too attached. Selling players hasn't done Brighton any harm.
All about recruitment rather than desperately trying to hold on to what we have on ever increasing wages.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Sell for 75, buy another promising young CB for 30. The only way we can survive at the moment.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I mean the £75m is just randomly made up on the Teamtalk website, with no sources or quotes or anything.
I've seen more reliable things written on toilet walls than on Teamtalk.
The same wesbite published an article 4 days earlier saying that Everton will reject all offers for Branthwaite in January.
The definition of clickbait.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I doubt it will while the best defender in the world is still there and playing, two lefties probably won't work
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I think we get one more season out of him. Him and John Stones together would be something special for England.
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
Obviously not a lot said about individual performances after the disappointment and circumstances surrounding our penalty exit... But thought Branthwaite did really well at LB considering he's a centre half.
Got forward way more than I expected and linked up well with McNeil.
Much prefer that to 5 and the back with McNeil as wing back.
I think positionally he maybe wasn't amazing and I have no idea how he'd fare against a team like City, but for me he has to stay there until Mykolenko is back.

Media quoted we wanted £75m a couple of days after I said that price was more realistic.Bluedylan1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:48 am Hate to say I told you so but...

We might want £100m and get £75m, we might want £75m and we get a bidding war that pushes it up to £100m, no one knows.
I still don't see how he's going to fetch the joint third highest premier league transfer fee of all time based on half a season of good form (of which he didn't play the first few matches), but obviously I'd much rather we got that extra £25m so would be delighted if I'm wrong and you're right.
Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
As has been discussed his new recent contract will put us in the driving seat.
I'd we want 100M then that's simply what it will take or he goes absolutely nowhere.

Re: Jarrad Branthwaite
I'm not sure that's true tbh, if the max we can get is say £80m and not a penny more then we'd still sell because it helps us reinvest and strengthen multiple positions.
We're not in a position to keep a player who could be sold for huge money out of pure stubborn 'we want £100m' mentality.
