January transfer window
Re: January transfer window
I like the sound of this fella. It's also interesting that we're going after another left-footed player to play on the right, as if this is something specific that Thelwell is persisting with. Unlike Harrison though, this lad sounds like he's rapid so that's an improvement already.
Getting way ahead of things, but ultimately you could make someone with his profile work with an overlapping RB like Patterson. When he's got the ball the defenders have to deal with the RB potentially getting outside on the overlap whilst he's capable of bursting inside himself if he hangs on to it. Would be lovely to have that element of unpredicatability that we lack so badly at the moment.

Re: January transfer window
I thought that too... a bit of pace would be nice and I don't think Moyes would just buy anyone...rumours of William too on a free

Re: January transfer window
I know he’s 72 years old but Willian is one of my fave PL players in the past decade.
Re: January transfer window
willian was decent back in the day but he is 36 and largly been injured while in greece has he got enough left in him to be worth it for us am not surePaddockoldie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:01 pm I thought that too... a bit of pace would be nice and I don't think Moyes would just buy anyone...rumours of William too on a free
Re: January transfer window
His pace alone should at the very least draw players out to create space.
Re: January transfer window
Yeah and let's be realistic about which aisle we're shopping in. We're not buying any elite, complete players. We're in the market for players of the right profile where converting their potential in to something worthwhile is going to have an element of gamble.
Re: January transfer window
You don't have to be amazing if you're fast, just look at what players like Traore and Elanga bring to their team just purely by bombing forward and getting the team up the pitch on the counter.
He'll be raw and maybe won't be a huge hit instantly but just having that pace will be a big plus.

Re: January transfer window
I do want to add goals but if he could get to the line Deulofeu style to create for the strikers that would be something. Pace is definitely something we need too and in general it's good to add a longer term prospect also.
Very pleased to see some activity though finally. New faces in general can help lift the mood.

Re: January transfer window
£16.8m is the fee being touted as well, which is incredibly cheap in the current market for a player with his profile.
Obviously reflects the state that Lyon are in at the moment, working to our advantage.

Re: January transfer window
I think Willian would be a clever acquisition until end of season, as long as he replaces Doucs behind the forward. Creative, can pick a pass out, play under pressure, chips in with goals and good at set pieces
