January transfer window
Re: January transfer window
Presume we're right with Beto until Dom, Chermiti and Broja are fit at various stages over the next few months. Would be nice to have options wide, but Moyes is used to making use of few playing resources. Centre Backs out wide, and central mids like Osman and Arteta out wide.

I just don’t see it.brap2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:52 pm Cannot possibly tell me, despite the wins, going into January and coming out the other side minus Dom, Mangala, Broja, and adding nobody, we can say we're happy.
Massive risk this, understand the club is in a difficult situation with targets and ffp, but it's a very very disappointing window.
We are safe, it’s January, good players are rarely available for value.
I don’t see the risk at all. We can have another couple of injuries and still not get sucked in.
I like us rolling the dice until the summer instead of getting bodies in for the sake of it.
Takeover in December, new manager in January. It was always going to be difficult to do business.

Dom arguably not much of a missbrap2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:52 pm Cannot possibly tell me, despite the wins, going into January and coming out the other side minus Dom, Mangala, Broja, and adding nobody, we can say we're happy.

Broja a non-entity
Mangala basically replaced by Garner (not to mention Alcaraz coming in)
Not sure the bottom 3 are even getting to 30 points at this rate. We're on 26. Chill.
Re: January Transfers - 2024-25
If we'd still got Dyche and not won the last 3 then I'd be in full blown Captain Mannering mode, but with what we've got now we should be able to eek out enough points from the remaining games[Inc home ones against Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton] that we didn't need to risk the long term.brap2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:52 pm Cannot possibly tell me, despite the wins, going into January and coming out the other side minus Dom, Mangala, Broja, and adding nobody, we can say we're happy.

The contract situations come July are a worry. We're going to need as much cash available to be able to negotiate decent deals for everything we'll need, else we'll be hamstrung like the last few years dealing with only those who'll accept 'pay you next week, promise'.
Mangala could have changed the summer too. Maybe we thought we had our man and would have been able to negotiate him o. The cheap with their financial situation, but now we're going to have to go looking for a replacement so need more £££.
Re: January transfer window
A couple of months ago I wouldn't have thought that 1 loan signing would be considered a good transfer window. We've enough to get to the end of the season. This summer is going to be interesting!
Re: January transfer window
It’s just a bit boring and underwhelming, but it may well be for the best - we’ll see.
Pickford and striker (they’re expensive) aside - it really shouldn’t be hard to upgrade any other position on the pitch. It’s a big old world out there - to not bring anyone in apart from Charly boy is a bit worrying.
If our PSR is really that bad and has hamstrung us this window, is it really going to be dramatically better in the summer, even with the new ground?
And it does put pressure on the summer, imo. Bringing in 10 players simply doesn’t work (and we probably don’t have the money, either), so I think the lack of activity this window means we see the likes of Doucoure back on new deals.

Yes the PSR will be much better in the summerGranite wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:12 am It’s just a bit boring and underwhelming, but it may well be for the best - we’ll see.

The period is til the end of June, so our last realllllyyy shit year will be wiped off, and we’ll just have some bad years to manage instead, but with the debt payments all being cleared off that will give us much more to play with next season
Re: January transfer window
Think it’s been a sensible and financially responsible window, there was no value to be had in this window and we had no wiggle room anyway, we are keeping our powder dry for a new financial period starting next season.Granite wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:12 am It’s just a bit boring and underwhelming, but it may well be for the best - we’ll see.

Re: January transfer window
Exactly why the Alcaraz deal is perfect too. Get him in now, but don't pay for him until we're in a better place to do so PSR-wise. That and then the added bonus of getting to see how he gets on for a few months before committing too.Cereal Killer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 8:24 am Yes the PSR will be much better in the summer

I would ideally have liked to see another 1 or 2 in on loan, and it'll be interesting to hear what Moyes has to say about that not happening at his next presser. But with the way things are at the moment in terms of our position in the league then I think holding on until summer and being able to plan properly for it is the best, if slightly underwhelming for now option.
Still annoyed about the same old drama in getting the deal over the line though. Was hoping for a nice 9pmish announcement rather than the usual post-deadline wait and see if we've managed to sort it in time shite.

Re: January transfer window
I don't find it boring or worrying at all. Actually quite encouraged that we've kept our powder dry and waited for the summer reset. Alcaraz will be a nice addition to give us more options, and if he impresses significantly, it's nice to have the option to Pienaar/Arteta him on a permanent deal.
Looks like he improves us technically, which is much needed and 22 is an ideal age if we do want to him keep longer term.
In an alternate timeline, we've still got Dyche and we've just signed Danny Ings to chase after long balls, so all in all, I'm feeling pretty good about things.

Re: January transfer window
It’s fine.
This is what you get with David Moyes. He’s very particular in what players he wants to bring in.
I’m sure they were trying for other players, but it’s hard in January. It’s not like everyone around us was spending loads of money and we’ve been left behind.
The summer will be a lot different. More wages off the books, more money available and time to assess and add the right players.
I don’t know what people were expecting this window with a new manager coming in and most probably ripping apart whatever plans we had for Dyche.

Re: January transfer window
Happy enough with the window but there are holes in the squad a few injuries and it will be square pegs in round holes very light in Center mid and left back hopefully gana doesn’t get injured
