Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Sums up how poorly we have been run that Warrington has ended up being released for nothing
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
No surprises I don't think.
I don't think they're saleable and we need to move away from offering short term contracts in the hope this might change with a lucky loan.
It's a shame because I thought Warrington had something about him and MacHunt has a beauty of a left foot. Neither would get any game time with us though.

Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Our academy is a joke should just go like Brentford and forget about it really thought hunt would make the grade but poor loans and lack of opportunities is forcing them out
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Hunt is nearly 23 which is surprising.
Don’t think any of them were anywhere near good enough unfortunately.
The academy really has suffered over the years.

Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
No surprises really, but Katia Kouyate, Mackenzie Hunt and Kyle John leaving without a single loan between them. Disgraceful.
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Happens every year, people have a meltdown at the young players getting released, should have got their chance, play kids etc. In reality there's very few players who leave that go on to have careers at a Premier League or a similar level, that goes for most clubs. Most people have rarely, if ever, seen them play either.
Too often in the past we've saddled ourselves with average players on decent contracts that no one wants to take on.

Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Thing about Warrington is that I think he got injured but we sent him out on loan to Plymouth this season after a really good loan Fleetwood in league one.
What was the plan there? Surely he had to either be offered a new contract or be sold last summer.

Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
I guess to see if he could step up.
By Christmas he's played less than an hour and then suffered a terrible injury.
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Yeah, he went to Plymouth and never played because he wasn't good enough, got injured, then came back. I think we gave him a good pathway to prove he could have made it with us:
- Tranmere for half a season in League 2
- Fleetwood for a season in League 1
- Plymouth in the Champ for a season
We gave him every chance and I assume the feedback they've had is that the Champ was a level too high for him.
You're right though, the only time he probably had any option of being sold was after Fleetwood, and I assume that the thinking was he could make first team squads here and get a new contract after Plymouth.
We need plans and pathways for special youngsters to get into the first team and we need plans to selling others for actual money. Ellis Simms, Tom Cannon and ISS all fall in the latter but were sold because we had no choice, not because that was the plan all along.
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Stan Mills is next on the list - does he go down the Warrington or the Tom Cannon route?

No more so than any other young lad really.
Season ticket holder and a local lad so has probably been slightly unfairly hyped.
I back him to make a career in the game no problem, but he's not a prem player right now so is what it is.

Yeah, I’ve watched him a couple of times, all be it league 1, but he looked decent.

Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
I’ve no problem with releasing then if they aren’t good enough but I think we have wronged some of them with the poor loans and lack of a proper pathway
Re: Everton Academy, U21s etc...
Have we really though?
There was nothing coming out the club to suggest any of them were good enough.
What more could you do with someone like Warrington other than send him on loan to league one and the championship?
I don’t think any of these lads are worth criticising the club over.
We’ve done well with Brathwaite and got a lot of money for simms and cannon.
If they’re good enough they show it at that level. If they’re not then this is what happens.
Maybe the others could have impressed on loan but i doubt it.
