This fucking stinks if true. Do I see the benefit of having a cheap 4th CB option who already knows the club and can fit right in so we can spend money in other areas? Quite frankly, no. Because any of the pluses he brings are going to be immediately forgotten as soon as he drops a clanger, loses his head and rattles the whole defence in a match.

What can ya do, I get it. We have 3 very good centre backs and massive holes everywhere else. He's free and probably on lower wages now. There ya go, step 3 - I've convinced myself it's a good idea.

It's fine, we aren't getting a better 4th choice CB and if he's used it'll be because we are down to the bare bones, and in that scenario it's better than Myko or someone else trying to do a job there.

Makes sense. Spend the money on forwards/starters.

Defo makes sense. You're not gonna get a quality player willing to come as 4th choice CB, so then you either probably have to get a veteran or a talented kid who's willing to sit on the bench for most of the season. For the latter you'll need to spend money that we need elsewhere.

Might as well keep Keane, who will be fine under Moyes if/when he plays a few games a season.

Didn’t Tarkowski’s hamstring fall off or something, though?

It's grim, he puts everyone on edge every time he steps onto the pitch, we're always annoyed on here whenever he is named in the team. I am not talking myself into he'll be fine under Moyes or whatever I would rather he was released into the wild.

But if we are not willing to increase the budget by selling our most sellable asset in Branthwaite, then I'll suck it up and hope he stays as 4th choice and the other 3 don't get injured and we need him for any period of time. We have far too much work to do this season in terms of numbers alone.

I understand the logic when we have such a squad overhaul to deal with, but I resent the prospect of another season of having people awarding him gold stars and totally overrating his performance when he doesn't noticeably fuck up on the pitch.

Lovely lad but a liability when he plays, even when he outwardly makes no mistakes his decision making and poor positioning cause us problems defensively. Hopefully he sees very little time on the pitch.

I feel bad for him, but he just can't be trusted to put a run of games together. We've all made the mistake of thinking he looks good for 2 or 3 games on the trot, only for the wheels to fall off almost immediately.

His lack of conviction in his own abilities has cost us too often. Whilst i agree with the general sentiment from people like BD - i would prefer to name a kid from the u21s to the first team squad and have him on the bench when we get thin on the ground.
There's always a slim chance something positive will happen then (as opposed to the decent chance something bad will happen with the status quo)

He started the season and we shipped goals for fun.

He then came back into the side in the city game and was a disaster.

These players have to be trusted to come in and be solid

Like jags when he was older, or the likes of Stubbs and weir towards the end.

If he’s 4th choice centre half it’s a waste of wages and we don’t need 4 centre halves.

If he’s 3rd choice, with obrien being used more as a right back then he’s probably going to play more games than he should.

Makes no sense to me. Yet another manager has seen him on the training ground pinging the ball and thought I can be the one to get a tune out of him.

It’s also grim on his behalf settling for being a fringe player and not going out to play.

Also played well at the end of the season when he came in, and we aren't playing Keane over JOB at CB as Moyes has already shown he'll pick the latter over Keane.

All seems a very OTT reaction to retaining a player who's perfectly fine as a 4th choice CB. No one wants him playing a decent number for games, but as long as the wages are reasonable then there's nothing to really moan about.

Having depth in a position providing the wages don't impact other spending is actually smart play, why leave yourself unnecessarily short in an area if you get a couple of injuries if you don't need to?
