Re: Carlos Alcaraz
I can't say I remember him much from Southampton, but also can't say I've watched much Southampton in recent years. Anyhow, certainly is the right sort of profile of player and loan to buy is really almost always the best deal for a club like ours.
Really happy we're adding players though in general. Clearly needed a little boost to certain areas even if our position did improve of late, those injuries aren't nothing when we have a thin squad and players like this who have versatility too can help fill those gaps. Hoping we're quietly working away on 1 or 2 more as well.

The obligation to buy based on performance is a good bit of negotiating in my opinion. If he smashes it, we'd want to keep him if he doesn't perform, adios muchaho!

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Defo a Doucoure upgrade. No way this lad plays CM in a Moyes team.
Reckon Moyes has been horrified by the Duke's glaring technical deficiencies in the couple of weeks he's been here, and made it a priority.

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Not sure myself. Just vibes. Maybe I’m just feeling optimistic about this guy like I was with Besic and my heart is reminding me that it’s been broken before?
Besic had all the qualities we wanted, just not quite to the level needed. Is this guy good enough? I certainly hope so.
Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Gonna be nice having someone who could potentially link up well with Ndiaye.
Getting tired of his hard work being undone by Doucourè.

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
I remember Southampton signed him and I was jealous we didn’t. Has all of what we need, ball carrier, strong, likes a tackle, heart on the sleeve, press, AND he can control a football. So long, Doucourè, you’ve been amazing and an important role part of our history but it has to end now.
Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Pretty sure we'll still renew Doucoure for another year, hopefully just as backup though. We need too many players in the summer to jettison every out of contract player.Juanito wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 10:44 am I remember Southampton signed him and I was jealous we didn’t. Fingers crossed Alcaraz is just what we need to keep him out of the team most weeks.
Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Doucoure is just one of those players we’ve ruined over time.
Been a brilliant player, our best and most important since we signed him.
Wasn’t just that goal against Bournemouth, it’s his general level of performance during the times we needed him to step up.
But it’s gone now. He finished at this level, but can still be useful if used as a squad player. He can get a goal from nowhere, or press like an animal when seeing a game out.
The crowd is starting to turn on him because he’s playing every minute of every game.
Had this with so many players. Failing to recognise when the football is leaving them and put them on to fail.

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Don’t think he’s a natural replacement for Doucoure as he doesn’t look like he’s got the same strength and engine.
Doucoure is massive off the ball, and for all his issues when he’s got the ball it seems we’d need his replacement to cover as much off it. I think Iroegbunam is a more natural replacement in the role Doucouré is playing and this lad is the Mangala replacement

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
He’s looked pretty strong in the other leagues in the clips, but PL is different. Doesn’t look as big as the Duke either. We shall see when he bosses Longstaff later in the year.StirlingBlue wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:01 am Don’t think he’s a natural replacement for Doucoure as he doesn’t look like he’s got the same strength and engine.

Re: Carlos Alcaraz
Commentary just said he's played for Suthampton this season? If he's played for them and Flamengo how can he play for us as well?
