Yeah I'll give the club some slack in certain areas, where I think there's some justification (like financial restraints) but the right back thing is really poor. Waiting for the right opportunity basically means the right back we eventually get won't have had the full pre-season to bed in, and that's hugely frustrating when it's so glaringly necessary.

There's undiscovered tribes in the Amazon jungle, untouched by the corrupting hand of civilisation, who know that Everton need a right back.

I guess it's not a huge surprise to hear that the transfer bods are favouring younger players whose values can increase, whereas Moyes wants more established players.

Although there's a predictable disconnect there, I actually found it fairly encouraging that the players we have signed (last summer included) have all been on the younger side, so the recruitment people are clearly thinking longer term, beyond the Moyes era. There's no Souceks getting signed (so far), so that shows that Moyes isn't winning those arguments.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but part of me wonders if they're saying ''listen mate, you'd better play these younger players we've spent good money on this season, or we won't even consider a contract renewal''.

It feels like the power dynamic has shifted somewhat. At the start of last season, Moyes clearly had a fair bit of power given the way he stabilised us and managed the transition away from Goodison. I think the owners were very grateful for that. But the disastrous way we finished last season, and with a only a year left on his deal, I'm not sure he can swing his dick around the offices in quite the same way.

They had eighteen months to identify a player that was good, and attainable at a decent price.

Like I’m not asking for the best right back in the history of the game. I would have been over the moon with Kenny Tete last year. An actual right back is all I want. Whether that be premier league established and mid to late twenties or a young right back who we give a chance to that’s fine. But just sign me a fucking right back.

In fact even a right back in their early 30s would be better than watching a player that can’t play right back struggling to do so

When O’Brien first came into the team he initially did well there, but he’s been found out now.

I think Moyes thinks it’s making us super solid at the back but it’s really not. That last game away at Spurs , Tel and Udogie were clearly targeting getting at us down that side. Even then does having the extra height at defending set pieces really outweigh having someone comfortable on the ball at right back

If the worst comes to the worst and we don’t sign a right back, which is looking more and more likely. I hope that we convert a midfielder there rather than O’Brien again. Probably not Merlin Rohls dream, but I’d rather have our 2nd best centre back playing alongside our best centre back (O’Brien and Branthwaite) at centre back rather than playing our 3 and 4th best centre backs at centre back (Tark and Keane) and weakening right back as well

As brap said - we’ve just decided to let the monstrosity of a situation at left back slide, such is the fans desperation to get right back sorted. Guess at least we’ve got the false hope there that Aznou may be given a chance. Though his most likely route to that appears to be hoping that Mykolenkos wife gives birth every week, as that’s probably the only reason he got a start on Saturday !
