Offside by a toe, this offside VAR maybe quicker but still shite , Pen rule is nonsense, proximity and natural position for me. Showed it to the ref in slow mo , then after the replays show it at normal speed

No idea why people are upset about the offside, no matter where you draw the line there’s going to be a call that puts someone off by a cm.

If you give 5cm of leeway then someone off by 6cm will be offside by 1cm and the same crowd would be complaining that it’s too tight to make the call

They need to think about why offside was brought in originally. It wasn't to stop people being marginally offside, it was to stop players being able to stand anywhere they want on the pitch, see: goal hangers. I think the semi-assisted offsides are okay but even then they're not 100% accurate and is being a shoulder offside a significant advantage? Not for me. Just leave it to the linesmen.

As for handballs. You can have a shot from 20 yards out, it's heading towards the top corner and is stopped by a hand about 10 yards out. The result of that is a penalty. Fair enough. You can be on the byline, 2 yards away from the winger and stop a cross with your hand (exactly like last night) and the consequence is exactly the same. Penalty. The handball decision like last night has far too much of an impact on the game compared to what the incident actually is. If it's a shot heading towards goal is blocked by a hand then I'd give a penalty, if it's not a shot heading towards goal then I think an indirect freekick is a much fairer consequence.

I kind of think that the pace of the game means that the offside rule needs completely changing. Making it more like ice hockey where you can't enter the final 3rd before the ball is in there. There'd be an issue with free kicks and not being able to lump it in the box, but being offside because your foot is at a slightly different angle to the defender is just crazy.

Should be a belter of a day today.

Much as England have underwhelmed, I'm still looking forward to the tension of a knockout game and if they are able to pull out a convincing performance, they could still totally change the mood and the narrative around the whole team, even at this stage.

And then hopefully Spain-Georgia should just be a really fun game, with lots of really watchable players on both sides.

Did watch last night wishing it was us though. England Vs Germany prime time Saturday night. Think we would have had a decent chance as well.

The offside decisions are ludicrous.
We were told at the start var would only intervene when it was a clear and obvious mistake.
Drawing lines on the field to see if someone is a fag paper offside is not a clear and obvious mistake, if you can't tell with the naked eye if he's on or off then you go with the on field call.
The obsession to get these offside calls forensically right is sucking the joy out of the game.
When Coventry had that last min winner chalked off in the semi against utd i could have wept for them and the game as a whole.

The handballs also needs to be sorted out because again it's a farce.
Last night Michael Oliver gave a penalty for the ball striking the defenders arm which was for me not in an unnatural position from barley a yard away, it didn't stop a goal, it just stopped a cross coming in, a penalty for that is really harsh.

The same referee in our last game of the season at arsenal was again called to the monitor to check for handball in the lead up to arsenal's winner.
Despite the ball traveling 30 to 40 yards across field and the ball bouncing fairly high and jesus clearly leaning into the ball and it striking his arm for him to be able to control it take it up the field that led to arsenal's winning goal.
Yet he did not think that was handball.

What i'm saying is that last night he probably got the penalty right in that the rules state he should have given it because it hit the defenders arm even though he could nothing about it and there was no intention whatsoever.
A soft penalty is given and the game changes.
It has to be sorted out
