Yeah, I don't see any civil claims for comp being straight forward. Not clear to me what the cause of action would be: Breach of contract with the league or among the teams? Some sort of tort? And then there are clear causation issues. How do you go about proving that Everton going over by 20 mill actually caused your team to be relegated. I don't think you can. The causal links are just far too tenuous.

They might point towards the timeline and say if that point had happened last year, we would have gone down instead?

I feel like it's all a stretch and I think the guy who released the statement saying we are open to legal action has an agenda to punish us beyond his remit.

We lost 200M for the naming rights of the stadium when uncle al had to pack up. Surely that has to be mitigating, not as though we started an international conflict resulting in the government sanctioning one of our investors.

Well yeah, between COVID and the Sigurdsson situation then we were quite unfortunate in addition to our shady Oligarch no longer being able to pump money into the club. However the blame still falls at Moshiri's door for this absolute mess and fact our losses exceeded the amount allowed by £19.5m.

Although I have a lot of issues with FFP (or profit and sustainability rules) being a thing in the first place, I can easily accept that we broke the rules and I don't think there's any mass conspiracy against us. A 10 points deduction is however unbelievably harsh considering other situations where clubs have got off with whatever they want (*cough* super league *cough*) and it's now got to the point where Man City would have to get a 50 point penalty at least for this to even feel remotely justified and there's not a chance of that happening.

Genuinely only become more furious about this as the day has gone on.

Exactly, a point greater reduction than a club that actually went into administration. Fuck off!

Calling these financial fair play rules is so misleading. They are, at best, financial sustainability rules. Actual fair play would be imposing a salary cap of some sort, like in US sports, or a cap on transfer fees for everyone. (Not suggesting that this happen, but would actually be aimed at fairness.)

I’m not fuming about this, any other season yes, but we’ll be fine this season, and probably out the bottom three after the United game. Let them hit us with the 10 points, just be consistent with everyone else.
There’ll be a lot of clubs bricking themselves with this news.

I don't think it was Tosun, as it says he was given a new contract in summer 2020.

Most likely Michael Keane...

Just fuming more and more as I read or listen to more of this.

I didn't even realise Man Utd had a "technical FFP breach" too and got a 300k fine.

Jokers.

The Premier League have opened up a massive can of worms with this ruling. It has some very serious legal ramifications, and Everton could counter sue should there not be similar rulings against Chelsea and Man City in the future. They could claim that their judgement was not fair and reasonable in the future, not just now.

This is a historical landmark ruling for the entire football industry in England. I don’t think the committee and PL have thought this through at all in that context that this will serve as a legal precedent going forward. And if anything, it shows the dire need for a regulator of the game to ensure there is equality and fairness.

Can we go back and sue Liverpool for getting us banned from Europe then? Where does it end?

Absolutely stinks this like but can’t see it getting reversed so we’ve got to just suck it up and get on with it. Feel like this practically ensures we will be in a relegation scrap this season. In good form at the moment but things change quickly and you could definitely see one of the teams down with us improving at some point form wise. To assume we will go from back to back relegation scraps to 10 points clear of the bottom 3 is wildly optimistic

Just hope the siege mentality we will surely adopt is enough to unite us and power us on
