You're right problem is I don't think they have the rolling stock to run that many trains. We will be lucky to get them every 15 minutes.

Trains are awful these days. Maybe cause I live out in the sticks but I caught a train from Scunthorpe to Manchester in December to see Peter Kay. Two fucking carriages!
Going to places like Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool, from one side of the country to the other and they put on two fucking carriages. Stood up most of the way, full of hen do’s and lads nights out. Horrible.

I got the train to Nottingham the other Saturday. Stops were Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester. What did they send again? Two fucking carriages! Criminally oversold, not even standing room. At some stops I was apologising to the people on the platform trying to board the train because I was stuck in the doorway and couldn’t move any further in to let them on.

I paid £40 return on that one, but as I’d gone to by a couple of hundred pounds worth of books, I did not want to go through that again, standing up for an hour and a half with two holdalls full of books. Bought myself a National Express ticket for £11 had my pick of seats as it was half empty and you can upgrade to extra legroom for a massive £2 if you book early enough.

Fuck trains and the cunts who run them. Should not be allowed to sell 500 seats for two fucking carriages. It should be illegal. People couldn’t get to the toilets. Kids were crying. Bedlam.

I just looked at train tickets for me and my kid down to Liverpool from Durham and it was £90-£100.

I remember albeit 10 years ago travelling from Groningen in Holland to Dusseldorf for about €12.

Lake Como to Milan I bought 2 adult tickets and when she told me the price I thought 'wow that's cheap' thinking it was the price per ticket, but was for both of them... and the journey was lovely.

It's absolutely criminal how much train travel costs in this country, you pay very premium prices for awful conditions and experience.

The Groningen to Dusseldorf journey was shite, it was totally over booked and we had to sit on the floor next to the doors with a one year old which was not enjoyable, but at least it cost me the equivalent of a cup of coffee and a sandwich somewhere so I couldn't really complain.

It'd take the same amount of time as driving to Liverpool and half the price but actually quicker because I wouldn't have to drive 30 mins to Durham first and then wait for the train.

It's just not fit for purpose.

I looked at the National Express bus but at a 7 hour journey time and having to come down the night before and pay for a hotel that wouldn't be feasible either... But at least the price makes sense.

Unfortunately this country is about as far away from public transport being an effective way to reduce car use and pollution as you could possibly get.

Didn't see any options to get a physical ticket for next year actually.

Might get in touch with the club and say I don't have a smart phone, so need another way of gaining access. (But I suspect they want to tie into a system where you can only transfer your ticket via the official platform?)

I've heard it's the way all the clubs are trying manage ticketing, in part for the reason you mentioned, but also because they want to be able to track attendance data to specific individuals.

I'd imagine they have to be able to accommodate people who don't have a smart phone though.
