Blame the players for making mistakes in an apparent mistake free league?
Not sure the players have left much out there, their capabilities and levels, like players at any club that haven't downed tools, are just that.

Re: Have the players ruined the final season at Goodison?
A lot of the players are probably playing to their best standard, or thereabouts.
Many decisions have lead us to where we are, but I don't really have animosity to many of the current crop because I think the effort is largely there even when the quality is lacking...but for the most part we knew what we were getting when we signed them. You know what you're getting when we're signing Ashley Young for example. We were trying to patch holes in a rapidly sinking ship.
The blame goes more so on those making the previous choices that lead us to having patch up the squad on threadbare resources. I am overall pleased that the current players and Moyes did at least give us a more relaxed last few weeks of the season compared to what it has been of late, but looking forward to moving on now. I know that's a low bar but that's where I am personally. Things don't turn around overnight.
It's a shame we haven't had a barnstorming run in of form to send off Goodison, but there are plenty of memories of other games that will stay with people years from now.

I think we are very quickly forgetting where we were. Surely we would have all took this end to goodison when it looked like a combinations of benitez, lampard, points deductions and dyche might relegate us.
There's been times these last few years we've had decisions about not being a premier league team for numerous years. Talk now and then about the club maybe not even existing. We've gotten very lucky to survive it all.
These players aren't very good but in terms of who's fault this mess is... there's a whole load of previous board members, managers, DOF and players who are far more to blame than any of the players who've featured much this season

I'm not forgetting where they are, but just because one thing is true "we're lucky to be where we are" doesn't mean it anything after that should be accepted automatically.
4 wins from 18 home matches all season is diabolical. Going out of the cups to Southampton and Bournemouth at Goodison is terrible. Throwing away a 2 goal lead at home to relegated Ipswich is really poor. Nobody is saying we should be beating Man City but come on, give us something.

I think we are lucky to be where we are does kind of mean we should accept this season. Our standards can improve next season when our budgets improve next season.

Agree to disagree. I think we should be beating Southampton and Ipswich at home. If you don't then fair enough.777Kidnappings wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 11:32 am I think we are lucky to be where we are does kind of mean we should accept this season. The reality is neither result was a massive shock which shows what we are. We should be beating them because we should be a big team with high standards, not because we are good.

The players are the symptom, not the disease.
