Iliman Ndiaye (Garden reno ongoing)
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Why? As @Bluedylan1 keeps saying with how the financial rules work, it's not like we'd immediately be able to put that £70m towards someone else. Realistically are we going to buy someone better than Ndiaye to replace him for like half the price we sell? Is Ndiaye even close to being one of the issues in our team? No
Yes he can score and assist more, but he can also have a season a CB at RB to link up with. A superb footballer who loves being here, I don't know why people are so desperate to sell. McNeil, George and Dibling are our other wingers at the club. The most likely scenario is we sell him and watch McNeil or Merlin Rohl starting on the right wing all season.

£23.3m now allows us to buy multiple players though.Shogun wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 11:00 am Why? If we signed 2 players for £25m, one for £50m.then we'd spend £20m this summer giving us £3m spare.
In terms of spending power right now it would be very beneficial.
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Well I wouldn’t expect us to go out and get someone exciting anyway based on the business we’re doing, so let’s hope he has a top top season.
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Also…tbh I don’t think the side can afford to lose any more quality year on year. Unless we have a guaranteed CRAQUE to come in then please just stick.
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
We paid £16m for him. Why is he not replaceable? Brighton continually replace talent. Palace feel like they have had an actual conveyor belt of young, tricky wingers for a decade.
He's great to watch - but his output isn't tearing up trees.
Whilst we have to amortise his value over 3 years (sort of, the "3-year smoothing"), we are able to amortise incoming players by up to 5 years.
So we can still buy a £70m of players on a 3 year contract and the books will balance (we'll be "up" for the first 3 years if we got the new player to sign a 5 year deal).
edit
Wages going up is the more tricky dynamic under the new SCR framework.
Ndiaye isn't actually on all that much. So his replacement/s need to be hitting similar/be inline with our increased revenue this year.

Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
I agree but we’re about to replace our best CM with 31 year old Norgaard and our rb we’ve needed for ten years with a 28 year old Canadian who plays in Scotland.superpull wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 11:31 am We paid £16m for him. For whatever reason they have decided to keep a holding pattern this year (Moyes?) so replacing Ndiaye right now would probably look more like whoever the modern equivalent to Andros Townsend is.
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Or the players we've already bought are just aligned to our finances, not some weird conspiracy around not giving the manager available funds.brap2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 11:38 am I agree but we’re about to replace our best CM with 31 year old Norgaard and our rb we’ve needed for ten years with a 28 year old Canadian who plays in Scotland.

Whilst i agree completely, there is a bit of an omission there isn't there?brap2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 11:38 am I agree but we’re about to replace our best CM with 31 year old Norgaard and our rb we’ve needed for ten years with a 28 year old Canadian who plays in Scotland.

"our best CM, who was 36 with 31 year old"
We've also paid for a 20 year old, a 23 year old and a 24 year old this window (i know, as always, there is context and caveats around that sentence).
The one part of me that still has faith though, is the part of me that is repeating: we're saying the people who brought Ndiaye in can't bring an Ndiaye in. (although, again - context and caveats).
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Exactly this. And that “guaranteed” ringer will cost an arm and a leg and come with its own risks of not working out, as well as a larger salary than Illi is on
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Why do you think that ‘being aligned to finances’ is not a conspiracy theory? Do you have access to club finances that we do not? Can you tell us more?
Remove all theory - the pattern of players we are buying. Based on that alone, I don’t want to see what our winger would look like.
Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
Can’t afford to lose anymore quality now.
I’m not sure what people would expect this recruitment team to do with three weeks left in the window to replace our best player.

Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
I'd expect them to have someone lined up in the eventuality that he'd leave.
But the reality is that it would be Jacob Murphy on the last day of the window for £25m.

I hate that this is probably going to be true.
Fuck, I need to check out until the season starts.

Re: Iliman Ndiaye (Saudi Interest)
So you think it's more likely the board are deliberately withholding funds that a manager they've publicly backed could use to strengthen the team, thus having a higher possibility of achieving their goals, than us just spending what we are able to within the constraints of CSR.brap2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 12:38 pm Why do you think that ‘being aligned to finances’ is not a conspiracy theory? If you really think that you've fallen so far down the rabbit hole you're currently spooning a very confused bunny
