Which is always the case. Nobody takes a significant pay cut to stay where they are (even on FM). That hard dose of reality has to come from a new third party/the market.

Personally I'd much rather we had Keane at the back than Mykolenko if we were down to the bare bones.

We're probably lucky though that Tarks apart from one injury is extremely robust so hopefully we don't need to worry about that. For all his flaws though Keane is a very competent CB when he's on it, and that would have been useful for squad depth.... You can forgive a FOURTH choice CB having bad games sometimes because apart from maybe 3-4 clubs in the league no one has a quality 4th choice CB.

I'm guessing he either wanted more game time than we could offer or wages not in line with our budget though which is why he's leaving. So best of luck to him wherever he ends up, always been a likeable bloke so hope he does well at his next club.

Needing Myko to get some CB minutes means we will be more motivated to get more competition/cover at LB. Win-win if you ask me.

Letting Keane and DCL go shows that the club are very confident of bringing in the players we need. They’re not 1st choice tbf but the squad does need a lot of padding as well as 1st teamers.

Myko is 10 times a better defender than Keane this attitude towards Keane that he was anything other than what he was is baffling he is a liability and should have been moved on years ago

There's also the uncomfortable fact that we might (ie, likely will) have to replace JB someday soon-ish. At which point, it would be good to have bedded Myko in at LCB a bit, or if that's not viable - to have affirmatively found out already.

Lots of interesting little tweaks to watch this pre-season.

Yeah there's loads of evidence Mykolenko is a better CB in a back 4 than Keane, can't believe I totally ignored the zero games and zero evidence of this in my post, how utterly silly of me.

TheRam wrote: Sat Jun 14, 2025 10:19 am You suggesting he was worth keeping because he played well in two games is equally as ridiculous.

He wasn’t worth keeping because the wages he’d be earning wouldn’t be worth what he produced on the pitch.

He didn’t have anything to offer anymore. We don’t need a 4th choice centre half

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that it disproves your claims that he's such a poor defender and has nothing to offer which it absolutely does

It depends what wages we'd be paying him but I think he's worth 40-50k a week. Admittedly the reason he's leaving might be that he wants more than that

At present I think we need a 4th centre half because our 3rd centre half is also our best right back. I just worry about the squad. Our youth system and our first team squad has been decimated. There's only so much that can be replaced in 1 window

Totally agree but it's a shame for us because we'd have got decent value on them contracts

Beto coming in and bagging was basically the nail in DCLs coffin.

He became second choice soon to be third when we sign another forward.

Cmon Keane was on like 70-80k a week

That’s stupid for a fourth choice CB

You could be right, but I don't think we will get to the point where Myko needs to be the 4th CB.

Confident that will sign a replacement CB that we can have more faith in than Keane.

It's been quite clear that anyone advocating retaining Keane was doing so on a reasonable wage for his position in the pecking order so not sure what you're on about here really.
