Would definitely have rather kept Ashley Young.
Just checked and had no idea he was 35.

For some reason I thought he was about 31/32

You're right, swerve.

Apart from the fact he’s shite these days I really can’t stand Walker, be beyond disappointed if that happens.

When Moyes was here first time around didn't he try for a double swoop of both Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton?

Was a fan then and maybe still is.

Only way I can see this working is Ashley Young proved a lot of people wrong despite his age, maybe Walker will do the same.

Can't stress how much I don't want him though.

Look at the state of Sterling. One the pace goes on these type of players then they're absolutely finished.

Yeah Really he's past it , hasn't had a good game since the WC V France when he kept mbappe quiet. We have all watched City these past 12months, can no longer get up and down , pace gone , along with concentration and never been any good overlapping. Only thing he had going was his rapid recovery and that's gone. Seriously disappointed if he rocks up.

I haven't watched him in a while but I'd still bet he's a fair bit better than either Ashley Young or Patterson.

It's fine for a year, we're not spending anything on an RB so it's either someone like Walker or Coufal to see us through another 12 months.

May as well stick with O'Brien at RB in that case.

His pace hasn’t gone, he’s just not as fast as Vinicius Jr which pretty much no one is.

Forget his antics in his personal life. As a professional, this is a winner who will set high standards and command respect. He still has a lot of quality and if we can get him on a free for a year, why not.

As many of have said, we need bodies, which will mean some older, experienced players on free transfers. Walker fits the bill and would do a good job.

brap2 wrote: Mon Jun 16, 2025 6:32 pm Had a little look at Grealish fbref earlier, see what his numbers are like.

Based on the last 12 months, during which time pep has seen fit to bomb him out, Jack Grealish has put up numbers on the ball I could only describe as a fucking joke.

99th percentile progressive carries
87th percentile progressive passing
92nd percentile key passes
89th percentile passes into penalty box
87th percentile progressive passes
92nd percentile shot creating actions
99th percentile shot creating actions from open play

Listen he's not a lightning quick superstar but I honestly think he would make a massive massive difference to how this side plays on the ball.
Given how little he played I'm guessing the Venn diagram of the event(s) from the above stats is a number of concentric circles, (excepting #2 and #5). i.e. he carried the ball forwards and made a key progressive pass into the box that allowed a shot creating action from open play,...once or twice.

Seriously though, if we're looking at stats, one goal and one assist in 8 games isn't wonderful. Even Dwight, our current 2nd choice LW managed more from the fewer games (and less playing time) at LW last season, and likely did more other stuff whilst achieving it (although he was pretty anonymous at times last season).

I agree that Grealish is a spark that we really need, and he'll definitely be utilised better in our system and have more freedom to be himself, just as long as his loan signing doesn't detract from far more important areas on the pitch we need to fill, then Im OK with it, otherwise I'd be happier we concentrated on other areas. Want to fix the holes in the hull of the good ship, before selecting the upholstery...

His age is fine, his ability is great, he's not been overworked... all good. And I'm not fussed if his signing happens before other more important ones, just as long as it's not 'instead of'.

He's shite. And irrespective of even if he wasnt shite, he's a wanker. I dont want us signing players I actively dislike. I want our new players to give me hope for at least a couple of games before I dislike them.

There's no doubting his quality. Obviously some of those stats are inflated by the way Man City and Pep dominate the ball, but they are still reflective of the talent that he is. If we can get him for a year and he does well then that's a bonus that we should be on our knees to happen.

If we're signing him for £50m at any point, we've got issues.

Edit: I'm talking about Grealish

It's not just Vinicius or that he's slower than. That Senegalese lad Diouf made an absolute cunt of him the other night.

He's not good enough for City anymore, so he shouldn't be good enough for us if we have any ambition at all. Ashley Young may be 5 years older and not quite as good, but he'll also have been on a damn sight less money than Walker. Ashley Young is not totally reliant on pace, Walker is and is declining rapidly. I didn't really want us to retain Young for another year, but I' rather that than taking on a massively overpaid, rapidly declining 35 year old Kyle Walker.

He was decent, but now he's shite and just getting shitter.

It’s levels isn’t it. Walker may be finished at city but he walks in to our team with ease. One or two years takes the pressure off as we are getting seven or eight twenty year olds with great potential in one summer. Were well positioned at the back so makes sense for the fillers to go there are invest big further up the pitch. He also single handed drags the levels up in the dressing room
