I agree that Kyle Walker might not be the right fit but I think we need to accept *some* of this.

The squad is barren, we are almost certainly going to have to add a handful of cheap players with mediocre age profiles to have the depth we need to survive a PL season

If our only business is signing these types of players then we should be livid. But if we invest in young talent for key positions (attack and midfield in particular) and round out the squad with some experienced 6-7 out of 10 players, that’s a good summer.

Yeah, we had excellent results under Moyes but there is a colossal amount of work to be done with this squad and I don’t think it’s realistic to expect it to all be done to the highest standard possible in a single summer.

Don't think Patterson has a future here sadly but the loan will at least give us a chance to assess him.
Yeah, I think we're probably needing two right backs, even if Seamus signs for another year he can't be relied on to stay fit even as a back up and after Patterson being overlooked for Young in the last couple of games I think we know where he stands now. Moyes either needs to start Patterson and let him learn on the job or we loan him out and try and get some value for him in the summer but if he's loaned out we'll need two.

O’Brien has proven himself a competent right back and he’s still gonna be third choice centre back so we really only need one right back.

You don’t need two players for every position, very few clubs have that level of depth.

That's assuming we keep Branthwaite.

Now it's Marseille's problem to get rid of him

We should at least do our best to strive towards that though.

All well and good that JOB can play RB but Keane is going and it doesn't look like we are in the market for a CB.

An injury to Tarks or Branthwaite and we are down to 2 CB's so it's important we have adequate cover in all areas.

Decent move by Thelwell by the sounds of it. Apparently we had an option for another year which we took up before he went on loan last season meaning they have an obligation to buy him.

Getting money for Maupay is incredible, especially close to the £12m we spent (I assume the performance related stuff wasn't met). Daylight robbery.

Don't even want to hear about Jake at RB long term, he's not a right back he's a big grock of a centre half who did a job.

Joe Thomas in the Echo has described any interest in Kyle Walker as "tentative at best".

One interesting thing about this window is the changes throughout the club mean we don't yet know who to trust for stories. But it's never the S*n.

People saying Kyle Walker wouldn't suit Moyes given his personality seem to be ignoring that he was perfectly fine for Pep who holds them to at the very least the same standards of not higher when it comes to their influence and personality in the dressing room.

I'm not really bothered of it's him, the other Kyle Walker or some other freebie, because none will be long term planning and only a stop gap until we can spend again next summer. It's all a much of a muchness at the end of the day.

I'm actually surprised we're even looking at one tbh as expected we'd go in to the season with JOB, Patterson and Garner as the RB candidates so imo any of the freebies linked would be an improvement over that selection.

We definitely can't fix everything in one window.

We had a solid defensive unit under Moyes last year.
We had huge holes in the middle.
We struggled for pace and goals from our front line.

I'm more than happy to base this window on who we sign in the middle and in those attacking midfield roles.

Happy to plug holes and fill gaps at the back for a year
