The Rebuild
Re: The Rebuild
Longstaff is more of a sitter than a box crashing Doucoure type.
He's essentially a better but still very average version of James Garner.
I've said before on here he'd be an ok signing and got hammered for it, interesting to see people coming round to it now.
He played in a Newcastle midfield as a starter in the season they finished 4th so he's a competent if uninspiring premier league midfielder. Not someone I would want us to buy over a more exciting prospect but he'd come in and do a solid job consistently which we might need to accept for a season or two whilst we concentrate in other areas.

Re: The Rebuild
Tbh I think the Longstaff link was a bit of a throwaway in the article, just mentioned because there had been links with him in the past. I didn't get the sense that there was any info that we were specifically targeting that transfer.
Re: The Rebuild
Longstaff could probably do a job with Gana next to him doing all the legwork like Guimaraes and Joelinton but so has Garner.
I’m fine with cheap fillers in the backline but for the midfield, go get someone who can actually play.

Re: The Rebuild
I don’t like having one James Garner and absolutely can’t be arsed watching two of them.

Re: The Rebuild
Struggled last season but I do think he's very talented.
The issue with this sort of thing is that Ipswich already paid £20m for him and he's only 21. They're probably looking at £40m for a guy that struggled in his only PL season. Not sure that's the most sensible move for us.

Re: The Rebuild
Three of his top 10 comps on FBRef are Harrison, Doucoure, and Ndiaye.
That basically amounts to doing a ton of defensive work but not creating many chances or getting into very good goalscoring positions. (Ndiaye had a solid season in front of goal but wasn’t regularly getting into dangerous positions since Dyche mostly had him hanging out at wing back.)
Not as exciting as some of the other wingers linked but I can see the sense in it if we’re expecting his attacking output to recover (10 goals and 4 assists in only 24 90’ in the Championship) in a side in which he’d be replacing one of the two poor attacking players who made regular appearances last season.
I’m not paying much more than they paid for him, though. £20m is fair for someone who’s only proven themself in the Championship so far.

Re: The Rebuild
No way are we paying 40m unless it’s a small down payment and the rest over so many crazy stipulations that Ipswich wouldn’t agree to anyway
He’s good - pacey, direct and young. But 20m is where he’s at

Re: The Rebuild
Yeah ipswich aren't getting much more than their money back. In no world does anyone pay 40m for him at this time
Re: The Rebuild
They'll just keep him then. There's 4 PL teams after him. We're being linked with Doak for £30m who has done much much less.
Unless there's a release clause then I don't see him leaving for anything less than a big profit.

Linked to Rohl again in Bild, after we appa made a couple of bids for him at the end of the January window
