Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Hope you all have a good time when you go in August and an England win on Wednesday will be a nice thing to mention whilst you are there.
Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Not really but it does seem a bit right wing, Farage supporting, anti German to sing about the war all the time, I would bet the majority that sing it also voted Brexit. I get the rivalry that England have with Germany but it's just a weird obsession that England fans have about singing about the war as if they won it all by themselves without the help of any other countries. It's a bit like the bloke who plays the Great Escape theme on the trumpet during England games even though from what I remember most of the film was Americans like Steve McQueen and James Garner that the story focused on.
Having said that, our national anthem is about a battle against the English over 700 years ago and everyone loves it so who am I to reason why.

Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Not a mention anywhere from the pundits that Pickford saved one which is how we actually won !
Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
First thing I read from BBC this morning from Phil McNulty praises all penalty takers and Jordan’s save
Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Our fans focus on what they say about pickford wayyyyyyy too much.
He’s received plenty of praise.

Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Agreed, but it's the way of club fans throughout the tournament. I listen to a load of different fan channels, and every set of fans thinks their players are persecuted by the media and on twitter.
During this tournament Liverpool fans think TAA has been scapegoated, Arsenal fans think Saka and Rice have been thrown under the bus, City fans think Foden has been hung out to dry. And then they all slag off players from the other clubs to overcompensate.
It's kinda depressing. That's why I was saying the other day that I'm so fed up of the club stuff during internationals.
Re: Euro 2024 Discussion
Before I had read any of this I noticed in his press conference, in reference to the penalties, that Gareth mentioned each of the penalty takers individually, Harry Kane, and each keeper in their squad individually *except* Pickford.
Don't think we're being persecuted, but thought it was a bit weird considering his role in the win. Maybe to pull heat from the stick Pickford gets from the media or fans?
Got to admit he does look small in the goals for some reason, not his usual commanding self, and I can't work out why.

In the interview I saw, after he mentioned the penalty scorers by name he did say “the goalkeeper will always make at least one save” although didn’t mention his name..Cods wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 2:32 am Before I had read any of this I noticed in his press conference, in reference to the penalties, that Gareth mentioned each of the penalty takers individually, Harry Kane, and each keeper in their squad individually *except* Pickford.

And that's fine because at this point everyone knows who England's goalkeeper is. It's a sign of greater recognition in my book.
