I just can't be arsed to listen to any of them at the moment.
However i would love to know the reason why we didn't buy a right back.
Any chance you could give me brief highlights of why?

We only have so much money which is about 60% less than everyone else... We struggled to score goals last season and sold Onana too so other areas were a priority. We have Coleman, Young, Patterson, Dixon and Garner who can all play RB, and Mykolenko, Young and McNeil who can play left back.

He touched on our defensive stability last season although not in relation to transfers, but I'd imagine it was deemed the 4th best defence in the league was ok for another season while we addressed the attacking output issues and midfield lack of bodies.

He said we can't fix every problem in one window and they'd like to have been able to do more but couldn't and that when you make the decision to keep Branthwaite you accept that this is a compromise you're making with not strengthening other areas.

Also mentioned we're the lowest spending team over the past 5 seasons in the league but believes we're ok on the PSR front now but probably 18 months away from being on a more even playing field with most other clubs.

Thanks Andy.
He's got a point i suppose, but i still think we should have got one in as a matter of priority, but that's just me.
I'm just sick of the sight of young playing most weeks

Doesn't help we've got Coleman, Patterson and Garner all out injured which kind of magnifies the issue.

Also don't feel Dixon should be included in the conversation really as he's miles off being ready.

Hard to say which player we should have not signed so we could get an RB, I'd be tempted to say Harrison but even though he's terrible he can fill in 3 positions and we don't really have anyone else who's a proper wide player.

His explanation of the right back situation is little more than basic budgeting. Something we all do with the weekly shop. I'm not sure it's something to ease any misgivings we have about the overall job he's done.

Dixon shouldn't be in the equation, and neither should Garner, it's a specialist position that needs a specialist player. He should've said we have Patterson, who is injury prone, and I chose to re-sign 2 players for a combined circa 150k a week that proved last season not to be competent, and In Coleman's case, the ability to stay fit, as the first 2 right backs, rather than buy a competent replacement. Instead I chose to spunk 16 million on a shit centre back

Tbf if you don't renew Coleman and Young you need to sign a right back and a left back which is tricky, especially as both would need to be loans which massively reduces the pool to potentially choose from.

Or no O'Brien and we play Holgate.

It's all just moving pieces around on the chessboard without any hope of winning.

This isn't his first window, Coleman and Young being older than toast shouldn't be a surprise to him, he's been in long enough to realise left and right back are an issue. I'd rather have Holgate sat on the bench over OBrien and have a competent right back playing, these are his choices, and imo, they're the wrong ones

I think if I were a DOF I'd be looking at the money we spent on Patterson, and whilst it wasn't loads I'd be wanting him to work his way in to the team rather than spend again on that position.

We also had the 4th best defence in the league last season so I think it's fair to look at that area and think that whilst it needs changing it's functional enough for one more year.

We could have strengthened both full back areas and not signed Harrison and Lindstrom but then everyone would be complaining we hadn't addressed the attacking issues and rely on set pieces to win games again.

Or not signed Mangala and Tim but then had a very very bad midfield.

I don't agree with everything Thelwell has done, but I also think what he's working with is extremely difficult, and whichever way he went over the summer it would leave an area under resourced and everyone would complain about that instead of the full backs.

Maybe we should have sold branthwaite and tried to fix more of the problems. Maybe been proactive with another big sale which might have helped us avoid spending money on players to just make do and got us a rightback

So far we've kept a centre half who hasn't played a minute and are playing with 2 or 3 each week who wouldn't get in a good championship side

Fully agree with him on the right back situation.

We started pre season with one winger and two centre mids.

That was the priority and that’s where the majority of our money was rightly spent.

We had five players who can play right back. Why add another average player to that position? We certainly couldn’t have spent good money in that area.

I don’t think not signing a right back has been a massive issue for us.

It’s been the set up of the manager and what seems to be a massive fuck up in getting the fitness levels right in pre season.

Do you not agree that Branthwaites market value is at least £60million and that nobody was willing to pay anywhere near that ?
