Who actually bought Barry, and secondly, why? All of our recent strikers, DCL included have been thrown up top, balls launched high and are somehow expected to head it on to nobody, hold it up for nobody, turn against 2 CB's and get in the box and score. Who saw that potential in Barry?

Have we bought players for potential rather than here & now in the hope they turn out to be great & we can sell them on.
Barry still looks miles off the pace, dibling not getting minutes, alcaraz same. A lot of wasted money there for " what if "
We really needed the " here & now "

Don't think there's much wrong in doing that. Sacrificing a few places for the next season or 2 to have quality down the road..... the problem is im not sure we've even signed players with great potential

When finishing just above half way gets European football these days buying proven without sell on value is quite acceptable.

But didn’t we get ourselves into monumental trouble buying and paying over the odds for the here and now I have no problem with Barry dibling or Alcaraz all 3 should be playing imo a mix like dibling and kdh is good

Why do we need here and now? To win what?

We're top half while bedding in young players. Isn't that...fine? Maybe even good?

Yeah people being far too reactionary imo... When you buy players like this you might have to wait a few years before it pays off.

We clearly had a plan to buy 23 and under players ready for the first team, but all 5 of the rapid wingers we bid for didn't want to come, so we bought potential and hoped they'd contribute a bit in the meantime.

We sit mid table well away from any relegation trouble, and if we finish there we can hopefully add the like of Fofana, Conceicao, Bakayoko etc as we'll be a more attractive proposition, and Barry, Dibling etc will be able to contribute more after a year of development and bedding in.

If in a year's time we've added 2 attacking full backs and a rapid winger, Dibling and Barry are able to contribute more we're an entirety different proposition.

We arent bedding them in. The only 1 playing is Barry and hes been awful and is only playing because we have little else.

We needed a rapid winger. We should have bought potential that was quick

The issue here isnt them not being ready now. It's that having seen them they dont look like they've got amazing potential. Id take our money back on Barry and dibbling without question. No way did we imagine they'd be this bad

We have no idea about Dibling as he's had such little game time, you can't base anything off the few minutes he's had. I do think though he could be anything from wide player to a ten to an eight. Think long term he'll be a good buy, but it's one we have to be patient with.

Should we have bought a rapid winger with potential? Who knows, probably wouldn't have played either if he was just potential so doubt we'd have got anything extra from doing that.

Barry scored double figures in La Liga and Beto had a good 2nd half to the season... Probably seemed like we could play Beto and ease Barry in over time but that's not panned out. Could we have bought a better striker for now at the price we bought Barry for? Maybe, but we also weren't expecting him to be a starter so can understand the logic in the signing.

Walcott Sig Bolasie Tosun Rooney - these lot cost us £100m+ and we got £0 on sales from them and it ruined us for a decade.

They were all here and now until they weren't
