I don't really get the Carsley shouts either, he hasn't done anything to suggest he'd be good in a high pressure, high expectancy Premier League job. A few youth coach appointments, assistant manager, caretaker jobs etc, hasn't lasted much more than a year in most of his club jobs, done fairly well at English international younger age levels but Paul Simpson won the U20 World Cup, perhaps we should give him a go, he's never been anything more than a League One and Two manager though.

I don't think most people would look twice if he hadn't played for us, there's nothing to suggest he'll be a good PL manager, he's 50 now so not exactly a young manager finding his way in the game and above all else doesn't appear to have the ambition to get into senior management. He may well be highly regarded but I get the impression that's more as a coach than manager.

Heavily linked with Coventry today, which is probably the level he should start at rather than throwing someone with zero experience straight into a PL job. I don't think it's ever been done where someone his age and lack of experience has landed a big job, Arteta maybe, although he's a lot younger, but he shadowed Guardiola for a few years rather than coached Man City U18s for a year.

Carsley deserves better than old role – he should look for a club job
Returning to his role with England Under-21 may be a backwards step for the 50-year-old after impressing – at least on the pitch – with senior side

There has been interest in him previously from club sides. Stoke City considered Carsley 11 months ago but opted for Steven Schumacher instead. Last week, he was asked about the vacancy at former club Coventry City but deflected any such discussion on the matter, and the likelihood is that his sights would be set higher.
The dream appointment is thought to be Everton, where he spent almost six years as a player. Sean Dyche's contract as manager expires at the end of the season and there has been no clarity on the future while US consortium The Friedkin Group goes through the process of completing its takeover from owner Farhad Moshiri.
In the meantime, an underwhelming start to the season has eroded Dyche's standing among supporters and some would want Carsley to be considered should there be a shake-up and a fresh start at the club's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
That would amount to a gamble for the new owners, while Everton — who have only 12 players under contract for the start of next season as it stands — have served as a stern test of the capabilities of many coaches in recent years.

If not I would be more than happy for Ancelotti to come back for the new stadium and set us off.
Equally for long term I would be ok with Frank, Potter or Carsley.
They are my top 5 but I really don’t know what the best choice would be to move us forward

would always respect ancelotti for coming to everton when he did
his go to set up is a team already in the top four ready for a title push and we are def not that at the moment -
and yeah out of the managers mentioned i think potter would be the best choice - that is unless west ham step in and appoint potter after they have sacked lopetagi!

I know you like to poke fun at him, but if Ancelotti was our manager then it'd increase our chances of landing some very good players. If money was spent wisely this time on players with resale value, it wouldn't be a terrible thing in the interim (couple of seasons).

The manager surely should be one of the last pieces of the puzzle, once the strategy, structure, back room/ support positions and approach are decided. Top down.

I remember him fondly. We scored lots of goals and he brought the phenomenon James Rodriguez with him. Fucking brightest spark in a long, long, long, long, long long time.
